I wish I lived in Washington state

..so I could have Jim McDermott for a congressman. Did anyone see his talk to the Veterans for Peace on C-Span from last week? Subjects ranged from PNAC, the Selection, touch-screen voting, the starving of the government, and the media's complicity in all of it. This guy is on the case! Too bad most of the other Dems in congress are still trying to pull their heads out of their ass.

you have to remember though that Jim McDermott represents Seattle which is very liberal. That's the only reason he can speak his mind out because he knows that he's going to get elected

2. One reason why I support the guy enthusiastically...

...he's one of 5 Representatives who voted against condemning Newdow vs. Congress. This outweighs his support for conscription, and also marks him as one of few who understand that atheists are not inferior to Christians.

One of the low points since 9/11 was the grotesque spectacle of our distinguished congressional representatives nearly trampling each other on the capitol steps to recite the pledge for the TV cameras :puke:
I like McDermott's style, too. Plain spoken, no pretentiousness. Wasn't he one of the Reps who got slimed by the media for visiting Iraq before the invasion? Even more points.

But he voted against War, Patriot Act, and homeland Gestapo. He sees the facism...he told me so.

Yes - saw McDermott on C-Span and he was great.
Remember the demonstrations against the war in Iraq? Jim McDermott's elderly mother was out in the streets and marching in Seattle.

I voted for him last time and will do so again. He is a great guy...Took an hour out of his day once so my Daughter could interview him.

8. Seattle is so boring and actually not progressive

This town, to call it a city would be a stretch, is so boringly pc i want to scream.

On the other side of the coin, it has the worst urban infrastructure imaginable. People here will never spend a penny on levies and taxes to upgrade transportation. The freeways, actually there's only one and it was built in 1960, here are so loud that they can be heard in homes ten miles away. Things like sound barriers or low-sound producing roads would never make it here. This "liberal" town is surprisingly cheap and "libertarian", more in synch with Eyman than McDermott in many ways. I am frustrated, I came here to work on low cost housing and urban development but this place is in the dark ages.
