I can see it playing out now...impeachment procedures against Bush and Cheney for their crimes of revealing a covert CIA agent and violating the Geneva Convention will result in their resignation in disgrace before the convention. In a state of panic, the Republicans nominate John McCain for President and Rudy Giuliani as VP.

That would be a tough ticket to beat. :)

Their motto is to repeat something over and over, despite facts to the contrary, knowing that eventually the people (who are stupid, they think), will believe them. So far, that's been working. We could have another national election like the ones in 1976,

But if Dick Cheney really is the de facto executive of the country, well, retirement is probably looking pretty good now. He legally fleeced Halliburton for about $40 million when he unexpectedly decided to appoint himself as VP, having to sell off all of that stock which coincidentally dropped like a stone a few weeks later. The batteries in his ticker machine are running low and he needs to get that fixed soon. His neocon buddy Scooter just took two in the gut for him and he's about to take one in the head for Valerie Plame. Might be a good time to get out. One thing is fairly certain: if it fits Cheney's self-interests, regardless of the needs of his country, he'll do it. Besides, Hunter S. Thompson guarantees it.

That leaves the Boy Wonder without a Batman, though he'll never be without his faithful butler, Karl. He could graciously retire to France to avoid the death penalty under the War Crimes Act of 1996, or he can continue to arrogantly wave the flag and bravely sport his tin cowboy hat. Which path will he ever choose?

I think we're going to see Dick regretfully step down for reasons of health, to be replaced with someone who can soften the rich, white, bible-thumping image they currently have. Too bad they don't have a black female version of Mr. Spock waiting around, one who is already deep enough into it to know better than to squeal....
