Clinton Tells '60 Minutes' of Infidelity
Clinton Tells '60 Minutes' of Infidelity

NEW YORK - Former President Bill Clinton (news - web sites) called his marital infidelity a "terrible moral error" whose disclosure to his wife put him "in the doghouse," during an interview scheduled for this Sunday's "60 Minutes."

Why did he commit adultery with White House intern Monica Lewinsky?

"For the worst possible reason," Clinton said. "Just because I could. I think that's just about the most morally indefensible reason anybody could have for doing anything."

snip...
Clinton said he never considered resigning as president, and described his battle against the "abuse of power" of the impeachment process "a badge of honor."

"I stood up to it and beat it back," he said. "I don't see it as a stain, because it was illegitimate."

I am looking forward to watching this interview and reading his book.

3. "stain", "beat it back", he's having fun with the double-entendres.
I think he's laughing. Not at Hillary but those who hate him for having Monica do to him what I can never seem to do to anyone else.

"For the worst possible reason," Clinton said. "Just because I could..."

An allusion to Tony Blair, when he was caught off the record leaving the House, when a close friend asked him the 'real' reason for choosing Iraq to invade.??????

2. I like his answer
He took full responsibility for what he did, which almost destroyed his marriage, but also called the impeachment exactly what it was - a politically motivated travesty.

6. Clinton Calls Impeachment Battle 'Badge of Honor'
Former President Bill Clinton (news - web sites) called his fight against impeachment a "badge of honor" and his affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky "morally indefensible" in a CBS television interview.

In the hourlong interview to air on CBS' "60 Minutes" on Sunday, two days before publication of his memoir, "My Life," Clinton said he was proud of his successful fight against impeachment, the network said in excerpts released on Wednesday.

"I didn't quit, I never thought of resigning and I stood up to it and beat it back," he said.

"The whole battle was a badge of honor. I don't see it as a stain, because it (the impeachment process) was illegitimate," added Clinton, who called the process "an abuse of power

12. He screwed up, plain and simple
But he admitted to and learned from his mistakes.

Just like LBJ regretted Vietnam, and Reagan regretted not doing enough to fight AIDS, Clinton admitted his errors.

Now Dubya, on the other hand...

Are bigger "mistakes" than having your penis fellated in the oval office by a woman who isn't your wife and then lying about it. No one died as a result of Clinton's mistake.

24. Do you think the infidelity is more to blame, or the lying?
I could care less that he had an affair, as far as I am concerned that is for him and his wife to deal with. But I was very upset when he lied about it. I understand that he was being pushed into a corner, but he should have been up front and honest immediately, and not gone on national tv and lied about the relationship.

However, Clinton still had high approval numbers, and I think Al Gore made a mistake by distancing himself too much from Clinton.

Gore Vidal said that on Democracy Now, and I, for one, agree with him.

There is only one person who has any business asking me about my sex life.

That's my wife.

27. Gore allowed it to cost him a walk off victory in 2K
He chose to distance himself from Clinton, who was still quite popular. The distance only added legitimacy, weight, and a sense of shame to the charges. Clinton's approval ratings were proof that most of the country had moved on.

Gore should have spent more energy claiming the record of Clinton administration with pride.

23. I'd like to ad something to Clinton's "reason"
"Why did he commit adultery with White House intern Monica Lewinsky?

"For the worst possible reason," Clinton said. "Just because I could. I think that's just about the most morally indefensible reason anybody could have for doing anything."

************************************

It certainly wouldn't be good for Clinton to say this, but IMHO, he didn't do anything that most men wouldn't do given the same opportunity. I remember Ross Perot having a hissy fit about the whole thing and all I could think was "She didn't offer to go down on you, you little pointy eared freak!" Most men put in the same situation would do it if they could. I doubt that Clinton is the first to "do it" in the Oval Office and he's certainly not the first politician to be unfaithful to his wife.

He was asked a question about his personal life that was no one's business except his and his wife's. He lied because he felt they were asking about something that should be kept private. As he said, "Even presidents have private lives." The Freepers need to get over it. That was the worst thing they could come up with on him and so they turned it into a BIG FUCKING DEAL. The affair was long over before we heard anything about it. It was a non-issue.
