Californians...how are Enron tapes being covered in the media over there?
I haven't heard as much as i would think it warrants on the national news. As far a cable news goes, i keep waiting for O'Reilily to do a story on it, you know cause he's the guy looking out for us and everything, but nada.
How is it being covered over there? Seems like there should be a huge outcry over this, with the blatant coniving and mean-spiritedness of the tapes.

1. You can tell the anchors are astonished at FERC's response
I watched the CBS affiliate last night and that was my take .

2. It's like the Abu Ghraib photos. You knew something like this was
probably going on, but to SEE the actual photos, to HEAR those jackals on tape, is different and more upsetting/infuriating.

I am curious to how this is being received in the west coast. I am hoping this can eventually help kill the fetal presidential aspirations of Ahnuld since he was in bed with the Enron bozos. But CA itself should vote Kerry handily in NOV so no big deal there (although again, it could help wash out Ahnuld in his next election, if he's not going for the presidency already by then).

The real significance I would think would be helping us win the other West Coast states affected by this debacle. Is there any outrage there? People talking about it in their office lunchroom or over the water cooler? Tell us, West Coasters!

8. Arnold can't run for Prez.
He wasn't born here, as you must be to run. But then, the Dark Side doesn't pay much attention to the Constitution anyway. Or they could always have their Supreme Court(the same court that selected * )change the rules mid-game.

3. Yep, CBS news is covering it, but the affiliates are more
concerned about the latest murder, car chase, swindle etc. etc.. It's like we never had an energy crisis.

This must be used extensively to embarass the GOP, We must demand resignations from FERC. They didn't just fiddle, but got rich fiddling. I'd look at finances of the members of FERC.
ps Why not post this in "States Calif ". It might stick around a bit longer than on GD.

6. it's not
admittedly i don't watch local news every chance i get but i haven't seen one minute on it. to cover it would be to question arnold, which they still don't want to do yet (probably never will...)

9. I don't think it has sunk in yet.
that the whole Federal government could be so stacked against us
that even after all these tapes have been aired, that the FERC
should decide that we must pay Enron EVEN MORE!?!?!??!????!

Bush* has obviously written off California
and has entered the revenge/punishment phase again.

I don't see how anybody in California could vote Republican after this.

12. nothing, nada
Even the Sacramento Bee, which is considered liberal, has only published four articles in the past 2 weeks. I don't expect anything from local news. Their motto is 'If it don't bleed, it don't lead.'

I'm astounded this isn't being covered nationally. When I first heard the tapes (on Jon Stewart, where else) I thought this story would be all over the media. Nope. Un-effin-believable.

13. They sometimes play exerpts from them.
The thing is, the exerpts didn't seem that damning when I heard them. They came accross to me as a more a commentary on the situation than conspiracy.

14. Very little but I wasn't surprised at all...
I did have almost everyone I work with bring it up to me since they know my brother lost everything because of Enron and I've watched the case closely. Those who heard the tapes were disgusted. My feeling is that people out here are pretty sick of Bush (except, of course, the right-wing radio nutcases like John Zigler on KFI). He was interviewing the guy who's "in charge" of trying to get theatre owners not to show F911. What a bunch of nuts. Geez....I didn't hear anything from them about the Enron tapes. These people have been so bought that they are morally bankrupt. It's simply unbelievable.

16. The Oregonian covered story
in a full-page, special report the other day, including some transcripts.

Incredibly, Snohomish PUD here in Washington state is being sued by Enron for dropping their contract with them after SPUD discovered how they were being ripped off. This *should* be big news but the local channels don't seem to be covering it. Not that I would know for sure because I've given up on local TV news.
