America's True Class Warfare: Emulate the rich, despise the poor

This unspoken, underlying message is still alive & well today.

"Class Warfare" DEFINITELY did not originate in the Democratic party, nor with W*. Not even with Ronald Reagan.

Aristocratic attitudes were brought over from Europe. Whether these people were actually of the privileged class or they became so after their arrival, IMHO it's not an "American" idea. People throughout history have always sought for other groups of people to look down on. Even though I didn't do that well in college history classes, I'm really interested how the seeds were sown for this in our earliest history & continues today.

A few years ago, my cousin posted the following on a family website (there's no name so no problem), which helped me see the situation more clearly:

I used to be a huge Rush fan and felt much the same about “welfare queens” and “government dependents.” But it seems quite obvious that the same trump card is being played decade after decade to divide and conquer all those below the very rich. Throughout our history, the socio-economic bottom rung and often the middle class (especially non-white) have bickered more amongst themselves for the crumbs that fell from the top rather than uniting and demanding better treatment. It happened with black and poor white people during Reconstruction, and with laborers/farmers/and blacks over 100 years ago. It still continues today, with middle class Americans caught up in admiring the rich, instead of reaching out to unite with the rest of the have-nots.

It's nearly comical that so many in the middle class abhor the mere idea of being associated with those who depend on the government and require aid. So, the middle class stomps on the lower in the hopes of an upward boost by the coattails of the upper class, while the upper class chuckles at our idiocy. On the entrepreneurial note, there is no such thing as the self-made man - yet another tactic to induce admiration of the wealthy.

This pretty well summarizes the economic philosophy of Grover Norquist and Karl Rove. What's worse today is that the middle class is about to go the way of the FDR dime, if they get their way.

Seems to me this is directly related to the phenomenon of so many average Americans voting Republican against their own best interests. Why else would they give the rich a pass? They must believe their BS (endless tax cuts for those admirable wealthy people causing the "wealth" to trickle down).

What will make them realize that what's trickling down on them is not wealth? And can it happen before the election?

No wonder the Dems & Rethugs have such divergent visions for America.

1. It's sad that human worth has been defined by accumulated "stuff",...

,...rather than contribution to the whole. Is it any wonder our country is so fractured and hurting?

The term, "values" has been smothered by greed and stinginess.
