New California Poll: By 57-38 Recall Favored

A new Independent Field Poll of California indicates that Gray Davis has his work cut out. By 57-38 percent Californians favor the recall of the Democratic Governor. Last month only a bare majority--51% favored the recall.

Furthermore Davis's job approval rating has hit a record low of only 22% favoring and 70% disapproval. Only three years ago Davis had an approval/disapproval rating of 56-28.

The governor's staunchest supporters are in the Bay Area--the only region of the state which opposes the recall. He also has majority support among self-described Liberals and minority voters except for Latinos.

Among Dems the recall is supported by 27%, 92% of GOP voters, and 59% of Independent voters.

I just can't excuse the Republicans for what they've done. I suppose that if the polls supported it, you'd have urged Democratic senators to impeach Clinton too.

if we follow Davis over the cliff, not only will the repubs be crowing about how right they were, but they'll have the governor's office, which they will be able to use to create all sorts of mischief.

fair or not, we have to cut our losses. Davis's all-or-nothing strategy has already brought us to the brink of disaster.

3. This poll is more acurate...

the CNN "Poll", if that is what you call it claimed that 66% supported the recall and 27% opposed it. TOTAL B.S!!!!!

These numbers are more realistic than those!!!

The odds are AGAINST Gray! I think it is time for the Dem's to support Mr. Bustamante. Put all of your support and money behind him, NOW!!!!!!!

5. How many in that poll actually voted in 2002?

Even less will go to the polls on Oct. 7th...the fucking Republicans, with the money they spent to start the recall and finance the recall, will steal another election. Because they didn't like the way the election came out ten month's ago.

This is more scary than foreign terrorist, and much more of a real threat...the Republicans are terrorist in this country, the way they use their money to steal elections and subvert democracy...and nobody seems to give a fuck!!!!


Pay fucking attention: One can still vote NO on the recall and support Davis and also vote for Bustamante. It doesn't have to one or the other.

It will be interesting to see what develops in the next month. Surely there will be get-out-the-vote efforts in various factions.

I also hope that the Schwarzenegger candidacy will see the cold light of day and that the more sane members of the media (like E.J. Dionne) will carry the day and remind people of the practical aspects of this recall. This isn't a movie we can walk out of.
