In releasing hundreds of detainees from Abu Ghraib, the U.S. military acknowledged that these prisoners had done nothing wrong but were simply caught up in random street sweeps. Their "crime" was their Arab nationality, and they were tortured and humiliated because of it. Anyone who got out of line by objecting too much was singled out for special punishment.
There's really no mystery where Arab rage comes from. We invade their country, torture and humiliate their citizens, and insult their intelligence by telling them it's for their own good. By now, Kerry and Bush are both aware that Iraq is unwinnable. But regardless of the outcome of the election, neither candidate will withdraw troops from Iraq. Bush may even reinstate the draft.
Sooner or later the Iraqi resistance will penetrate the Green Zone, which reports say is developing a night life. Somebody's going to get sloppy, just like the guards did at Logan Airport on September 11th. Armed with knives, these mad-as-hell Arabs will penetrate the perimeter, and heads will roll. Literally.
