Thank you for informing me of your desire for Sec Rumsfeld to tender his resignation or be fired.

I believe the Bush administration's response to the prisoner abuse has been grossly inadequate ... I believe Rumsfeld should resign or be fired, and full and transparent investigations must be conducted imediately to learn how these horrors could occur...

I voted in favor of a House resolution condemning the abuse and torture of Iraqi prisoners. However I feel the resolution contained glaring and critical ommissions, most importantly failing to call for Congressional investigations...

5. Mine from John Shimkus regarding drilling in Alaska

Dear Ms. XXXXX:

Thank you for contacting me regarding drilling for oil in Alaska. I appreciate hearing from you on this subject.

I support opening a small section of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) to drilling. If allowed, this secure domestic resource of oil could yield an estimated 16 million barrels of oil per year. Clearly, our national reliance on foreign oil has led our nation to depend on OPEC. Without new sources of domestic oil production our reliance will continue to grow. I know there are deep concerns about the impact drilling activity would have on ANWR, and I think many of those concerns are valid. However, to add some perspective to the debate, allowing drilling in this region would be comparable to placing a small airport in an area of land that is the size of the State of North Carolina. I believe we can drill in ANWR and that we can do it in an environmentally safe way. This is a small price to pay for a large piece of national energy security.

We need to make a lot of difficult choices in the future regarding our nation's energy policy. To be honest, it would be great if we did not have to drill in ANWR. It would also be great if we did not have to depend on OPEC for our oil, pay $2.50 a gallon for gasoline or have SUV's that get 11 miles to the gallon be the best selling cars. Put simply, taking everything into account -- including supply, price, and the environment -- limited drilling in ANWR needs to be part of our energy strategy.

Energy prices will continue to rise if we do not find new sources of domestic energy. That is why I am also a strong supporter of increasing the use of renewable fuels, like ethanol and biodiesel. Not only will renewable fuels reduce our dependence on foreign oil, but they will reduce pollution and help our nation's farm economy.

I don't know Nadler, but it sounds like we're lucky to have him in there on our side and I'm glad to see him stand up against Rummy the Dummy. I sure wish Ohio had Dems like that!!!
