Happy "Adopt A Shelter Cat Month" everyone

Wonder what the animal welfare and rights groups made of the practice animal shelters had of spaying/castration/"altering" of shelter cats (and dogs too) and kittens (as well as possibly puppies too) prior to being adopted out, I am sure they ought to think that idea was a good one.


On edit I wonder who really started "Adopt A Cat Month," and if it was a certain orange tabby of "9 Lives" catfood fame.

1. My babies

came spayed, nuetered and chipped at the age of six weeks. They are the happiest cats going.:)

2. We have a local vet who will spay and neuter cats and dogs for free

if they come from a humane society. He's a great guy: instead of recommending meds. for your pet, he always turns to the dietary solution first (giving our dogs cottage cheese and corn oil in the winter saved us hundreds of dollars to cure their dry skin--damned mutts :-)).

4. wouldn't it be totally way cool if there was an HERBAL cure for NAUSEA ,

since we had to have our previous kitty, Midnight, put to sleep due to renal disease about 4 years ago since he suffered from serious big time nausea, he was 15 years old.

Midnight had a good, and I'm sure loving, life. You should be proud, and happy, that you provided a home that allowed your friend such a long life. Hats off to you.

7. Maybe I am sure I should count myself VERY lucky one kitty I had who

happened to be a calico, whose name was Ginger, lived to be 17 and Midnight lived to be 15. I should hope to be so lucky with our latest kitty, Merlin. :)

8. Peppermint tea is good for nausea

for humans, anyway. Dont' know if cats would drink it, though.

9. Heard something about "slippery elm" helping nausea in cats but I am not

sure about it. eom.

3. Our shelter kitty or kittie we rescued was neutered as well as chipped

when we adopted him as an "older kitten" (since he was 5 months old at the time,), someone I knew thought the neutering prior to being adopted out was a very good idea.


On edit Their cat did a Buddy Clinton for they never did quite get around to having him "fixed," though I was sure they were meaning to. RIP Spike.

6. I adopted Clancy from the pound

he was six weeks old; I had to send them proof I got the little critter neutered. Clancy (6 years old now) is a very sweet boy and I love him dearly.

10. Some shelters actually do the "fixing" themselves and in that case it may

be their own "the fix is in" project which had to do with spaying or castration before an animal is adopted out and had nothing to do with elections or voting, btw.

11. We have five cats and they are all shelter alumni.

All neutered. I don't know if Morris is the one that helped start "Adopt A Cat" month, but the cartoonist that pens the comic, "Mutts", Patrick McDonnell, is very involved in getting people to adopt shelter animals. He publishes groups of "Shelter Stories" strips a couple of times a year, too.

12. Maybe Morris just promotes it since he was an ex stray himself

just as GARFIELD is doing this year also in connection with his movie, though on second thought, I may not want to give away what predicament Odie gets into in that movie.

13. My shelter rescue Border Collie

wants me to adopt a dozen or so cats to prove that she really can herd cats! Nice try Sally, maybe next year.
