BBV: The facinating world of science and technology.

The debate over security and reliability of electronic voting machines

In the parliamentary elections in India last month, all voters cast their ballots electronically on more than a million electronic voting machines. The United States, meanwhile, is slowly updating its voting technology, especially after the problems with counting paper ballots during the presidential election of 2000. But critics say that the electronic voting machines are neither secure nor reliable. Some states have passed laws forbidding EVM’s until the problems can be resolved. Sharon Dempsey reports on getting the vote in the digital age.
