Katie Couric put in her place by Michael Moore.
As expected during her interview of MM, she started on the 'Saddam is a murderous tyrant' schtick and why didn't he put that in his documentary for balance. He came back at her with she and the news media beat that drum, he was showing that Iraq also had human beings who went about their lives, with children playing, who were bombed and killed by the thousands. He then charged on about if she and the news media had done their jobs, asking pertinent questions, maybe >800 American soldiers wouldn't have died. She was put on the defensive then changed her questioning to emails from the audience.

1. Moore is great in interviews
he looks and sounds like a normal guy among all the hairspray, it's almost shocking to see him in that setting.

7. We are boycotting the Today Show after Laeur's interview
THAT was the biggest piece of whoring and water carrying I have ever seen. He was going on and on about the torture footage (minimal in the film according to Moore), about how the White House (stated as FACT) said it was not worth commenting on (Moore pointed out that they hadn't seen the movie), about HOW did Moore get film crews into Iraq ( use of freelancers), and on and on.

At the end it was pretty clear that Moore had had enough and he said the same thing to Lauer that he said to Couric-If YOU had asked such quesitons we might not be in this mess. It was a real FU and my wife and I decided that we will no longer watch the Today Show and are firing off e-mails to Lauer to tell him how much of a scumsuckingWHORE he is.

11. I don't do any of the morning infotainment shows - all suck
Dummied-down "news" for the poor ignorant masses. Let's face it, these TV programmers play to the lowest common denominator. Teachers catch a lot of flack for dummying down the curriculum and teaching to the lowest common denominator, but this is what our society does - period. Newspapers are written at about a 6th grade level (lower than that for small local papers), tv news is directed at about a 4th grade comprehension level. The morning shows are the worse - sort of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood for the grownups.

15. Yes, and CNN has that curmudgeon Jack Cafferty going on about Clinton.
The email question of the day is something like "Have you heard enough about Bill Clinton and his personal life?"

Why, yes, Jack, I have, in fact. It's a 900+ page book, but the perverted media chooses to focus on sex, predictably. Eight years, and all you can talk about is blowjobs.

God, the media is so damned lazy. Are they shrinks, or journalists, because I just can't tell the difference anymore...

And, Clinton's book isn't even out until midnight, and they want to know if America is "sick" of it yet. Funny, they never asked us if we were sick of The Reagasm.

But I digress... back to Michael Moore discussion. :-)

27. Cafferty hates Clinton, but he also dislikes Bush
He, amazingly, has become the only balanced, educated voice on that wasteland of a show. He is old enough to remember corrupt presidents; Hemmer and Solidad aren't even old enough to remember H.R. Puffenstuff. Cafferty more and more gets agitated with the both of them when they start with the talking-points Bush defenses. Don't get me wrong...I don't like him. But at least he has the life experience to comment about the stuff going on. Far more than anyone can say about the Ken and Barbie twins.

20. Good idea!
I caught a small snip of the interview in between events down in Houston at our state convention, and had never seen Lauer so smarmy and disgusting.

I liked the way Moore put him in his place about it being a "PARTISAN" film. He specifically stated that he had not voted for Clinton the second time, that he had not voted for Gore in 2000, and that he was not doing it for the Democrats.

"But the movie does bash President Bush."
"Oh, it definitely does THAT."

Or something to that extent.

I'm still annoyed at Moore after his "prick" remark about Dean, but I've got high hopes for this movie. We all need each other. I'm working past it.

Actually..... These right wing books don't generate income, they are a charity within themselves. 98 percent of the profit is probably used to buy copies of their own books to try and boost them upward on the best seller list.

Unfortunately, it's all too believable. David Brock in The Republican Noise Machine devotes reams of pages to NBC and all its spinoffs. They are FOX dressed up. PERIOD. Their 'people' are Jack Welch (Bush Pioneer) and Roger Ailes whores (before FOX, Ailes was the bigwig behind MSNBC!).

In the end, however, the people will speak. Bill Clinton's book and Michael Moore's film will be runaway successes.

on some D.C. public-affairs radio show yesterday as I did the tourist thing in D.C. ... the interviewer kept bringing up "inaccuracies" various people had "found" in his movie. Moore would not give an inch. "That is absolutely not true," he kept saying. "My Web site will have documentation to prove that everything I've said in the movie is true." He would not give an inch, though the interviewer hammered on and on. He hangs tough!

I was driving on Constitution Avenue, within sight of the White House, at the time I was listening to the interview; wow, what a juxtaposition!

Since they don't have the balls to bring up any of this stuff. How dare they attack the ONLY person who is out there who is brave enough to bring this stuff up. He is paving the road for them to be able to come out and speak up - and instead of being grateful they're trying to squelch the only person brave enough to say what they've been thinking.

Guess they're so desperate to keep their jobs that they'll say anything and do anything that their "masters" tell them to do.

I would almost call that question a softball for Micahel Moore and kudos to Katie "affable eve braun" for allowing Michael to knock that one out of the park for all America to hear.

If anything, Katie Couric is a friend to liberals and she's very good at what she does. You can be sure that O'Liarly and Sean Hannity aren't going to be letting Michael Moore on their shows or if they do getting an easy pitch like that. Now America has seen a truly angry American and they are getting the message that it's no longer ok to cower or risk being called un-American anymore!

If Katie and Matt are nice to Moore, they get blasted as the "liberal media". If they ask him tough questions, it gives him a chance to answer them. They could have given him a heads up though. I get the impression from the interview with the Canadian journalist that he felt kind of blind-sided by Lauer. But let's face it, the Today show ain't no 60 Minutes.

55. I thought he did great! Especially...
...when he was practically BEGGING the media (pointing out NBC, too) to do their job on behalf of the American people.

He illustrated beautifully how the media has 100% freedom to ask ANY question they wish, and how we, the public, DEPEND on them to ask the questions we can't and how they are instrumental in getting the truth to the people. He pointed out THEY are not doing the job, so somebody has to step in on our behalf, but he sincerely stated his case on how we need the media to use all it's freedoms to get at the truth. He was very genuine here, and I think the result shamed her.

Of course, we DUers know better than to expect anything resembling acting on the public's behalf, but it was great to hear MMoore spell it out.

And yeah, the comment about his wardrobe (again, ad nauseum) was lame. When all else fails, tell the guy he looks like an unmade bed - typical.

59. Couldn't GE shareholders sue for breach of fiduciary responsibility?
I mean against the board; if NBC is allowed to actually expose the Bush administration's corruption, it could and most likely would cost GE lucrative defense contracts, which would impact its bottom line. Since the corporation's first duty is to make money for its shareholders, knowingly allowing one division to sink another division...well, they simply cannot do that and uphold their promise to their shareholders to protect their interests.

In short, I simply don't see how an arrangement like this is even allowed to exist! Next time someone says the media is liberal, explain to them why, at least in GE's case, allowing "real" reporting just wouldn't be an option, as it would harm the shareholders.

62. I regret ever buying GE products now that I know about them
The day we can trust NBC to give a non-Fox type news broadcast is the day I will have faith in this country again.
