I know people on here like to point to a "Passion" like grass roots marketing campaign blitz to get asses in the seats of theaters for this, but I'm afraid that it's a totally different animal.

Don't get me wrong, I WANT this to do well and I'm quite confident by documentary standards it will do AMAZING business. But I just hope people understand that given what this film is up against, and given that it is a documentary, and given the fact that Moore is a somewhat polarizing figure even among the left, that we have to keep it in perspective.

By way of example Bowling For Columbine did $20 million which is flat out insanely good for a documentary.

I just hope that our own hyperbolic hopes for this film don't bite us in the end.

2. I think it will do well

but won't change many minds. People who vote republican only watch and listen to things that they want to hear. There is no more uninformed, closed minded, jingoistic, and ignorant people in the industrial world than the American rightwing voter.

5. It's all about the undecided voter.

There are, believe it or not, still a few (million) in the country who just haven't been paying attention, and don't have much of a clue about what went on. If the movie can move a few (million) of them to vote for Kerry, or at least against Bush, the movie will have been incredibly effective. I don't care if the RW stays away in droves, but I hope all the foofaraw causes large numbers of Undecideds to go see the movie. Therefore, the more noise the RW makes, the better. The more they scream that people shouldn't see the movie, the better.

Even if people don't go see it, its message will be well known.

4. Limited release, also. But I think time will add to the profits.

I think this film will continued to be viewed in the years to come. Nothing like it has ever been produced before.

All I can say is that I'm going. I think it may not win the hearts and minds of independents or undecideds, who probably won't go see it (lack of interest), but I think it may end up being what I've heard described as a rallying cry for Dems.
