When I turned 14, I learned what every boy my age learns. You're suppose to lie about sex. If someone asks you if you got any "from that girl" you better say "no", not only because it's a private matter, or chivalrous, or the right thing to do, but you probably won't get any again from her or anyone else for a long time.

In Clinton's case this matter was between him and Monica. Then, between himself and his family. Finally, and most important, between himself and his own conscience. He shouldn't have lied under oath, he just should have refused to answer on the grounds that it was none of our business, because it's not.

The situation Bush is now in is quite different. He committed the worst lie any leader of any country can commit. He lied to send brave men and women to their death's in a needless war. He wasted a substantial amount of this country's treasure in a time of increasing need.

If Clinton's punishment for his "lie" was impeachment, how severe should the punishment be for the inept, bungling liar who now occupies the white house?

3. Well, if there was truly any justice...

...he'd be languishing in some Texas prison for the next 50 years or so. But since that's highly improbable, and impeachment would only end us up with Cheney running things (like he isn't already), I'd opt for Bush being voted out of office in a major landslide and when the time comes, no one showing up at his funeral. IMHO, nothing bad enough could happen to this inept, bungling liar. There's little chance for true justice, even less chance that he'll ever recognize or feel any shame for what he's done to us. That's why I remain...

4. Make him irrelevant

I agree with you, I don’t think we will ever get true justice on this. But one of the best remaining punishments would be to make Bush irrelevant. Imagine if everybody just ignored him after he gets pushed from office? He can languish his life away in Crawford wondering why no one who matters pays any attention to him. Can you imagine what that would feel like to him? A former leader of the free world (such as it is), and no one gives damn! Do you think he has the stuff of a Carter and can remake himself into an elder statesman and still be relevant in his golden years? No, I think he will sulk his way back into that bottle he came out of.

6. What I don't understand about the Clinton defense is this:

If you point out Bush's lies to a Bush supporter, 95% they'll counter with "Clinton lied, too".

But conservatives thought Clinton was a horrible president, and a horrible man. So how does "Clinton did it, too" mitigate Bush's actions?

It's like shooting someone's kid and then saying, "well, Ted Bundy shot people, too". Ok, and?

Of course, "Clinton did it, too" is not a defense in the first place. It's a battle cry of sorts; conjuring up the Clinton bogey man to incite some righteous indignation.
