Local newsperson tours Guantanimo
The Springfield MO NPR station (KSMU) is airing a series about Guantanimo. Seems some local folks are there on duty, and so the station went to interview them, take a look at the facility, etc. It seems this group is the 'information' (read propaganda) arm of the military, and they took Missy Shelton, the station manager, on a tour. She raved about the fact that the men are actually given Qur'ans to read, and that under the mattress in each bunk is an arrow pointing to Mecca so they can pray properly! (no mention made of the fact that there is now no imam available for them, nor that Capt. Yee, the former imam, was treated shamefully for apparently no reason other than he was Muslim). And yes, the cells are small, 'but I've seen cells as small as this in US jails', said in a jaunty, bouncy manner.

I'm sure they didn't show her prisoners being abused, and I'm certain that she wasn't given any access to the prisoners themselves. This little propaganda series continues today, and I plan to listen, even though it makes me want to throw up....but then I should remember that this station does broadcast out of Ashcroft's home town....
