Freeper motto: "Just because you have the right to do something... "

"...doesn't make it the right thing to do."

I've seen this as a freeper's tagline before, and have seen it written in freeper posts over at FR, and used bvy republicans I've known before to chide "liberals" for being "sodomites" and freethinkers.


My question is: How come they don't feel this aphorism applies to the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution?

2. Hey, I agree with that motto.

It sounds reasonable to me. I also agree with the inverse, "Just because something isn't the right thing to do, doesn't mean you shouldn't have the right to do it."

And I think it applies to gun rights, both forwards and backwards.

3. I agree with it too. How it's used is what I disgree with.

Freepers use it to obtain a piece of moral high ground. They use that motto to go after those who "take free speech too far" or live a little too freely.

However, it never, I guess, occurred to them that maaaaayyybe stockpiling vast quantities of guns ISN'T the "right thing to do."
