Kerry Embracing Clinton's Economic Record

WASHINGTON (AP) - A majority of Americans harbor bad feelings toward Bill Clinton, but he's no longer the political pariah Al Gore made him out to be four years ago. Unlike Gore, the 2000 Democratic presidential nominee, John Kerry is embracing the former president's economic record and taking action to capitalize on his popularity among minorities.

And he's doing it without fear of alienating moderate voters.

Even Republicans concede that the former president isn't a drag on the Democratic ticket. The political phenomena known as "Clinton fatigue" seems to have run its course.

"Kerry was never part of the Clinton administration or the Clinton entourage in the way Gore was, so any ill-will lingering toward Clinton won't rub off on Kerry," said Republican pollster Whit Ayres.

1. I had a job

while Clinton was president. Under Chimpy my job went to India with no replacement jobs here in Atlanta. Clinton = 22 million jobs. Chimpy = 3 million LOST and replaced by a million manufacturer flippers, I mean burger flippers.

Oh and gas under Clinton was $.84 a gallon and its 2 bucks with chimpy.

Its the pocketbook Bush, bye bye.

2. Not sure how Kerry can really replicate the Clinton economy, though

Two pieces won't be coming back:

1) the dotcom boom (though I wish it would)

2) cooking the books a la Enron (well, that still needs to be fixed.)

I do wish Kerry would adopt Dennis K's plans for getting out of Nafta and Gatt.

3. It's very simple....

If he can do what Clinton did...be the only one to raise the upper tax rate....

Kerry has promised to recind the Bush tax cuts on the upper eschelon and I take that to mean going from 35 back to 39%.

That little tweak unleashes a boat load of money.

The dotcom boom was more of a shuffling of money....not real enterprise providing new and improved products or services.

But perhaps many people did go on line and buy because of the ease and sudden availability of products on-line....I know my wife did.....but that of course has contributed to that much more debt for the average American....so the overall effect of the dotcom boom was no real advantage to America.

Kerry plans to put emphasis and incentives on American business...which could have a real effect in terms of reviving products made here and not offshore. I think he has the potential to exceed Clinton's economy if he gets a Democratic congress.

5. Yea, but Clinton got us into Nafta and Gatt.. it is thanks to Clinton

that our jobs are going overseas. I sincerely hope that Kerry will not be embracing that. :(

advised him of doing this? "clinton`s economy" was based on alot of really bad ideas and business practices. he whole thing started to collapse in the final year of clinton run and georgie boy put the final touch on the collapse. kerry should not run on clinton`s economy but should come up with realist plan to get us out of our current disinflation cycle.

7. That is just plain BS

The Clinton economy was strong right up to the second Bush* was sworn in. It was Bush* himself that sank it. When you switch from saving money and paying down debt to cleaning out the treasury and sending it off to the wealthiest people on the face of the planet people no longer feel as secure and know that we are no longer on a fiscally sound path. It is Bush*'s economics that have hurt America not Clinton's. If Kerry restores any of Clinton's sound fiscal policy America will prosper.

6. Bring back Rubin!!

I personally have no use for the man, but if Kerry made bringing back Rubin to Treasury or a similar post, Wall Street's hearts would go all a'flutter.
