Beheading is a horrible shocking practice but what did God ask of Gabriel?
Didn't God demand of Gabriel that after the battle he would, to show the might and Glory that is God, Behead all leaders of the ten tribes and then parade the heads around on poles to show the might and Glory that is God. And that if Gabriel would not do this thing then God would not aid him in the upcoming battle. Remember when Gabriel blew his horn the might of the Lord would be brought forth to vanquish the enemies.

9. That's the problem

I've never been able to figure out exactly who it is God wants beheaded. I mean, think about it. Who's my enemy? Who considers me an enemy? Should we all be be be beheaded? Sorry about the stutter. God stuff makes me nervous.

10. hey XNASA

Your post was the only reply when I replied so it looked like I replied to you, which I would have because I did get a laugh out of your "playing the horn" thing, :), but I meant for it to be a new reply. Does that make sense? Please, don't answer that. (Only adding this because one time someone called me out on replying to them when I was actually talking to someone else. Posting makes me nervous too.)

heh

2. That's Old Testament stuff. The fundies love that stuff.
I prefer the New Testament and the gentle lessons given us by Jesus, who to my knowledge, never asked that one person slay another.

Who wants to believe in a supreme being that would require such a thing! I think that god is the wrong one.

16. You are talking like Rumsfeld...Sign of the cross: get away from me! ARGH!
That is what scares me, the "literal interpreters" of any man-made religion and the CRIMINALS like Rumsfeld and Bush who use them. (If Bush reads the bible daily...I am the Queen of England).

24. He reads it, and only sees what he wants to in there.
Granted, I do the same thing, but oddly enough my interpretations of it don't seem to lead to people living (and dying) in abject misery.

6. Why is that any worse than stripping someone nude, forcing them
to have sex, attaching electrodes to their genitals, pulling their shoulders out of socket, stomping on them and kicking them for days until they are dead?

I don't understand the outrage.

You can prove the beheadings by evidence but there is only faith to support Gabriel and God.

12. Fundie-away Answer
Before I answer, I have to clarify something. Are we to take the Bible as a parable, or as literal instruction? If we are to take the Bible literally, then your story wouldn't apply to humans, Gabriel is an angel, and neither the terrorists nor anyone in our current administration are close to being one of those. If the Bible is parable, then the beheadings are figurative and symbolic, and there's a little commandment that would pre-empt taking this course of action.

Either way, God is telling us not to decapitate people.

13. The French invented a machine to do it.
So it can hardly be barbaric. The practice guarantees that the victim is truly dead. It was popular in western Asia too. China,Japan, etc. And don't forget England.

14. This is not from the Bible.
I've read the Bible.

This incident is not recorded there.

God never commanded that anyone be beheaded or that anyone's heads be displayed in such a manner.

15. Survey Says.... BUZZZ
I suppose you meant Gideon (who fought against the enemies of Israel not the 12 (not 10) tribes of Israel).

Gideon does take 10 servants and builds an altar to God against his family's and neighbor's wishes.

So Gideon took ten of his servants and did as the LORD had commanded. But he did it at night because he was afraid of the other members of his father's household and the people of the town. He knew what would happen if they found out who had done it. Judges 6:27 NLT Translation

Now, show me a verse where God commanded Gideon to behead someone? Or commanded anyone to do so?

Also for bonus points, where is Gabriel mentioned in the Bible blowing a horn? Here is a hint, he is listed only 4 times by name.

30. Well, the Hebrews did practice capital punishment ...
... and hanging has been a form of capital punishment acceptable to many societies.

So, ... yes, it is better than beheading and having the heads displayed in public.

33. how is it better than beheading?
You can have:
a) severed heads rotting on posts, rotting in the hot sun.

or...

b) entire bodies, hung from the neck until dead, hanging and rotting in the hot sun.

I don't see much difference.

26. Head hunting was common practice in the Bronze Age.
You decapitated your enemy and put his head on a pole. Once the birds had done their job, you added the skull to your head collection. We had a version here in the good ole USA known as scalping.
