On Monday, June 14, the eve of Kerry's two-day visit here, Attorney-General Ashcroft dramatically seized national headlines by unsealing a month-old four-count indictment of Abdi, a Somali native living in Columbus. "The American heartland was targeted for death and destruction by an al-Qaeda cell allegedly which included a Somali immigrant who will now face justice," Ashcroft boasted.

Ashcroft failed to point out that Abdi had been in custody since November 28, 2003. Federal investigators claim Abdi allegedly bragged that he wanted to blow up a mall. But according to CBSNEWS.com, "no specific mall was targeted. No explosives were in hand. And it was unclear that the alleged terrorist had the wherewithal to do it."

Has anyone heard that Abdi was in custody since November?????? I will reiterate once again - BUSH AND ASHCROFT HAVE GOT TO GO!!!!!! They are getting scarier by the day......

Oh, nevermind, only suspected terrorists with foreign sounding names get used to scare the populace. White supremacists with actual weapons and chemical bombs get ignored.

You know - there is something fundementally abhorrent when the Homeland Security Czar frames indictments for political effect. There is something wrong with this picture and it is simply that Mr. Ashcroft is FAILING TO DO HIS JOB. Instead he is manipulating the judicial process for political effect.

These people have got to go. If they are elected/selected/appointed/BBV'd in November - I shudder to think how much worse it can get - and it will get far far worse.......jeepers why isn't the mainstream media holding their feet to the fire for these sorts of hideous manipulations. WHY?????????

5. Yep...the story literally blew Kerry off the front pages..but ya know what

Kerry still drew record crowds .. in the rain...then raised $1 million at a fund raising breakfast the next morning.

And, yes, Adbi, the suspect, has been in custody--in solitary confinement-- since November of last year. After Ashcroft "unsealed" the indictment and did the press conference, he finally was brought in front of a Federal magistrate for arraignment. He was incapable of speaking and showed indications of severe mental abuse if not torture.

The Magistrate immediately refereed him for psychological testing.

This man was utterly broken by his incarceration and was incapable of bombing a Mall anywhere..let alone in Columbus. His indictment was an insult to Columbus' Somali community, who are among the most hard working and patriotic of Columbus' increasingly diverse population.

But the press got their headline...and Ashcroft got his scalp.
