There's an old political saying
Edited on Tue Jun-22-04 07:51 PM by louis c
that when you're opponent is committing suicide, don't get in his way. I think that's why Kerry is laying low and not trying to upstage the F'n moron in the White House. His administration is making so many errors, that it's hard to even keep tract of them. I like Kerry's strategy. His position is improving in the polls just because of these events. When the public is finally and thoroughly sick of Asshole & Co., then Kerry can put on his campaign. By then, he'll look like an even more attractive candidate.

9. Yes, ain't it entertaining :-)
It's enjoyable watching the Bush Administration and ranking Republicans in the Congress shuffle and re-deal each and every news day.

What's especially entertaining is that, even if they try, they can not understand the Average Working to Middle Class American. On Lou Dobbs, it cracks me up to see the surprise on all these Wall Street economist's faces when the mere mention of productivity increasing does NOT appease the masses. Republicans (in general) have no understanding of how us "little people" must struggle to survive and care for our families'.

They're so out of touch that even their attempts to regroup and counter-spin blows chow. :P

16. Sort of like the reporter who asked Elaine Chao about the
high unemployment rate last February and the cut-off in unemployment benefits. When she responded with "the Wall street numbers are doing well, stocks are up" or something like that, she proved that she just didn't "get it".

4. You may be correct
about its origin, but when I heard it in local politics, no one attributed it.

5. Rope-a-Dope
is a good strategy in this case. Besides, enough pressure is being brought to bear from other directions: Michael Moore being most prominent right now. John Kerry doesn't need to wear himself - or his message - out at this point. Count on him to rev up the rhetoric late this summer onward, however.

12. As a matter of fact
Kerry shouldn't change the focus of this election until Bush does something positive. Although, that could mean the next time we hear from him he'll be saying "I, John Kerry, do Solemnly swear ...."

7. yeppers
and, too, that's why he's delayed vp talk...

there's been no real need for it yet.

he's ahead of bush in most polls, his fundraising has been phenomenal and bushco is spending every cent already.

it's a wise move.

they just can't get too quiet, there'll come a time when he needs to step to the plate... (i have a hunch they'll know just when that time is, too).

10. Kerry could not BUY these kinds of blows to the ShrubCo machine
He has the luxury of watching steam pour out of their collective ears and their heads twist round as they silently self destruct. Wonder if Diebold still plans to hand Ohio to ShrubCo on a silver platter? They better get their shit together if they are going to fix this, because it is going to take some serious fixing.

11. Is Kerry "laying low" ??
i keep hearing this and i keep hearing about the rope-a-dope strategy ... "just lay low and bush will continue to self-destruct" ...

the thing is, i have no way of knowing whether Kerry is laying low at all ... i live in Massachusetts ... i'm not expecting to see many Kerry campaign commercials on local TV ...

on the national channels, i've seen very few political ads for either side ... i see a couple of bush ads everyday ... maybe a kerry ad or two ... the volume so far has seemed very low ...

what i'd like to know is whether this is actually a "laying low" strategy or is the really heavy stuff going on in battleground states ??

what do you say, battlegrounders ???

14. a view from Ohio
Kerry is keeping a lower profile--I expect that at this stage (still a long way til November). Bush, on the other hand, is running a ham-handed campaign that may please Bushies but isn't going to win over moderates. His ads call Kerry a pessimist, but Kerry's ads are up-beat--it makes Dubya look like a liar (yeah, we know he IS a liar, but he usually tries to hide that fact!)

Both have made several stops in the state, but that seems to be mostly energizing their own bases and raising money; the media is trying to get a long, loud slog going, but that isn't the game Kerry wants to play (I think he's right). Never peak too soon or wear yourself out before the final sprint. Save your energy and your ammo (switching metaphors in the middle of the stream)
