Poll question: Worst Right-wing talk radio host
Which is the worst in your opinion? And rate them (and others) in order from bearable to absolutely nauseating if you can.

Here's my list from almost-worst to worst:
Bill O'Reilly
Rush Limbaugh
Sean Hannity
Michael Savage - He is actually threatening harm to liberals on his show.

just in sheer terms of impact, he takes (in) the cake. The other guys make noise, but Rush is the national Ward Captain.

... but personally cannot fathom anyone doing more damage than Rush, he paved the way for all of them.

He's going to have a hard time even paying the interest on his Karmic debt.

23. Beck is the worst
he's a failed fm dj whose 'comedy' bits couldn't make the cut on a real radio station so he went republican.

he's the worst at using the old 'mute the caller, talk over him up to commercial break, hang up on him during break, come back on the air and continue the argument alone and act as if as if he's won" tactic

he organized claer channel's pro-war rallies and milked a few towns out of tazpayer dollars, claiming that his sparsely attended events would attract hundreds of thousands of listeners-they didn't

he tries to laugh off important issues by adopting tactics such as repeatedly asking liberal callers 'can you say 'haliburton' for me?' when they criticize the bush administration, as if this somehow negates cheney's financial dealings

beck is the worst because he's such a talentless hack who gets by simply by bieng a rightwing asshole. much like the way failed rock musicians start recording christian rock to save their sagging record sales

7. Savage, only because of his vicious homophobia.
Edited on Wed Jun-23-04 02:06 PM by terrya
That's a very hard question to answer, though.

1) Michael Savage

2) Sean Hannity

3) Rush Limbaugh

4) Bill O' Reilly

12. Are you asking us which is the most evil
and the inverse would be which is the least evil. So aren't we then choosing our increments of evil. And even the least evil is still evil? Anyway they all followed blow hard rush. If he had been unsuccessful perhaps we would not have as many clones so I guess that makes him the worst.

29. My first reaction was: how can you decide among this crowd?
It's like asking what smells worse, dog shit or pig shit? I guess you'd have to say pig shit but they both smell pretty nasty. Anyways, as others have said, Rush started it all so I have to give the nod to him. Haven't been able to stomach the rest for long enough to form anything but a knee jerk reaction.

13. it depends on what the definition of 'worst' is
Rush is the granddaddy of hate-radio but right now Sean is much more visible.

However, Teri O'Brien is just as evil as all of them put together and she delivers her Nazispeak with a valley-girl-type voice that drips with absolute self-righteous smaminess. ACK!

14. Other (specify)...
Glenn Beck. O'Reilly, Limbaugh, and Hannity, as idiotic as they are, can occasionally be informative... Savage is so miserably spiteful and self-loathing I just feel pity for him...but Beck is so nauseatingly smarmy and saccharine it makes me want to puke. Oh and G.Gordon Liddy is the best of course...a true believer.

32. I'm with you ....
I'm with you on those 4 horsemen you listed. Savage is mentally ill. Liddy is not in their catagory. He had Tim Leary and Bobby Seal (Chicago Seven) on his show and they admitted they were friends. I'd love to spent some time with Liddy but those others...no way. I would not want to be in the same room as Savage.

16. My intro to politics...
Edited on Wed Jun-23-04 02:34 PM by Sean138
I watched maybe 2 minutes of Rush's show when I was in high school, and couldn't stand him, so I never gave the fat fuck a chance (ie. never bothered to listen to his radio show), and I could tell by simply looking at Hannity, Savage, Matthews, and O'Reilly that they weren't worth watching or listening to.

I'll admit that I never paid much attention to politics until after 9/11, mostly because the coverage of Clinton was disturbing and the 2000 election was nauseating in and of itself. So, the only radio show I ever heard was Liddy's. He seemed okay, even funny at times, but kind of a jerk. No different than Stern, I thought. That is, until I saw a book of his called "When We Were Free". That's when I was introduced to the fact that these people really were assholes, and when I started to pay attention to sites such as DU that, for their part, tell the truth.

But these damn freepers are everywhere, aren't they?

affiliations. O'Reilly, on the other hand, pretends to be an independent, u know, the 'fair and balanced' kind.

In terms of impact, Limbaugh peaked 10 years ago. He's old news. Mike Savage is a blowhard but does anyone really take Savage seriously?

Right now, it's Sean Hannity.

Which reminds me: Ed Schultz is in the same time slot as Sean Hannity. Why not call your radio stations that carry Hannity, and ask them to carry Ed Schultz in stead?

because he has actually convinced some otherwise rational people that I know that he is a thoughtful independent. The most dangerous ones are the ones that can't be completely pigeonholed.

26. My vote goes to Boortz
I was in Atlanta last week and found myself listening to all the fucking loonies (O'Reilly, Rush, Hannity and Boortz). It was the first time I have ever heard Boortz.

He is a racist, ignorant, closed minded baboon.

27. Being in the business I probably shouldn't say this but......
I find Boortz to be the most disingenuous, bloviating asshole of them all. Hannity is right behind him and then Glenn Beck. Savage is just nuts, thats all. To give you some idea of just how tough it is to do my Liberal show, the station I broadcast from has ALL of the above on their air. They also have Laura Ingram, Rusty Humphrey, Tony Snow and a couple of others I can't think of right now. I'm the token Liberal.

25. Al Rantel
Who is on the same radio station in Los Angeles (KABC Talk Radio) that carries Hannity and O'Reilly. The man is the King of the Right Wing Psycopaths in my opinion. He is unrelentingly anti Liberal and is probably the most discourteous thug I have ever heard to anyone who calls in with a contrary opinion. Hannity and O'Reilly occasionally allow dissenters to get through, although they try their best to make fun of them. Rantel cuts people off before they can fully make a point and spends several minutes insulting them once they are off the air. Larry Elder, on the same station, is almost as bad.

28. Savage Weenie is pretty clearly mentally ill. The others are just mean.
I'll cast my vote for Limbaugh cause he still does the most damage and is the worst hypocrit, attacking others for the same foibles that he excuses in himself. Savage is small potatoes. If he had any audience, he'd be worse than Limbaugh, but mostly he's just a sick minded misanthrope who can, like Ann Coulter, be basically ignored.

On the whole Coulter, Hannity, & Savage don't sway votes, they only solidify the opposition. Limbaugh and possibly O'Reilly really swing votes, so theirs is the greater harm to democracy.

Not all conservatives hurt democracy, by the way. William Kristol, Tucker Carlson, Steve Forbes (the guys who are successful mostly because of who their daddies are) hold disagreeable opinions, but they mostly stick to the facts. They don't trade in disinformation. They can be argued with, so in the end they promote democracy.

31. I picked O'Really
just because he was losing. In truth, they're all horribly evil, and the only way to choose is to base your vote on WHAT aspect of them is most evil.

Hannity is the most bloodthirsty.

Rush is the most convincing.

O'Really does the most to pretend he's not a Rightwing fuckstick.

My particular "favorite" is Neil Boortz, who just doesn't appear to have even a semblance of humanity.

I say we kill him*

*Disclaimer: "I say we kill him" is an attempt at scary humor, and is in no way meant to encourage illegal acts, such as murder, bludgeoning, or dismemberment. Killing radio hosts will NOT solve the problem; in fact, for every one you kill, ten more are ready to take their place. Think of that scene in "Fantasia" where Mickey Mouse chops up the broom. You have just pictured a perfect visualization of the problem, and also George W. Bush's approach to fighting terrorism.
