i keep thinking of my uncle when i mention baby boomers...i should know better. My uncle is a guy who was in the marines in 1962 for a couple years...never saw combat, mind you. complains about people who "suck off the government teat", yet during his whole life, his father, my grandpa, was a federal postal employee, who fed and clothed my uncle until he was 18, then he went into the military, another 2 years being funded by the government, then was a county employee for 33 years. and he has the nuts to be irritated by people relying on government. He's the same guy, by the way that says, "you dont know freedom unless you've served in the military". My other uncle saw combat in vietnam and he's not a fascist?

..I think my outlook and aesthetics were heavily influenced by early 70's children's tv and education, which (if you remember) seemed to include an awful lot of really weird 60's drug fallout (a la Sid & Marty Kroft) in addition to some pretty solid liberal values that you could never get away with giving to little kids across the board nowadays. I mean, if someone came out with "Free To Be, You And Me" for preschoolers nowadays, the usual culture war goons on the right would go absolutely ape.

Your pal St. Ronnie of Raygun, boosted our FICA bigtime to "amass a surplus" that would not only take care of the then-retired, but would create a pool of cash for OUR retirement.. We also faced double digit interest when we boought OUR first houses (unlike the cheap interest that you young'uns have now ).. Reagan also took most of the tax deductions away from us...(Did you know that you used to be able to deduct interest payments on everything that you paid interest on?? There were lots of other "tweaks" to the tax code that ripped off lots of people...(this was all ostensibly done to create that magical surplus needed for the boomers' retirement)

Is it really all our fault, that corrupt republicans come along every 12 years or so and rob the piggy bank??

Don't forget that us bad bad boomers are the ones who saw 58,000 of us killed in an ugly and unnecessary 10-year war that came into our homes every night over dinner with Uncle Walter, saw the gains of the civil rights movement end up with 1 out of 4 African American men in jail at one time or another in their lives, saw the gains of the gay rights movement start falling apart when homophobia in high places allowed HIV/AIDS to be ignored for years and years and years, saw the war on poverty dwindle from implausible but still possible dreams to a barely-funded Head Start program, saw the first elected president of our generation hounded and attacked and brutalized for at least six of his eight LEGAL years in office. . . . . .

Many of the boomers tried, and tried, and tried, and now it's their fault they got burned out and defeated on so many issues?

The message would get out much quicker and to many more than can see it in theaters if he released the dvds/videos. 'Fahrenheit 9/11' Turns on Box Office Heat

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Director Michael Moore's controversial documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11" turned on the box office heat in its first day in theaters breaking single-day records at the two New York City theaters where it played.


The movie, which aims a critical eye at President Bush (news - web sites) and his prosecution of the war in Iraq (news - web sites), sold $49,000 worth of tickets at the Loew's Village 7 theater, beating the venue's single-day record of $43,435 held by 1997's "Men in Black," according to distributors Lions Gate Films and IFC Films.


At the Lincoln Plaza theater, "Fahrenheit 9/11" took in more than $30,000 to top the $24,013 set by "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" in 2000.


A spokesman for Lions Gate Films said the company debuted the movie in the two theaters to help build good word-of-mouth -- friend telling friend -- publicity ahead of the wide debut on Friday when it plays in 868 theaters in all 50 states.
