the ugly truth: Arnold only wins with votes from Democrats
Edited on Sat Aug-16-03 12:32 AM by JCMach1
It seems clear that the Republican Christian Right is jumping ship against Arnold. With that, it becomes clear that the only way he can win is if enough Democrats vote for him.

That's the ugly truth in California right now.

The question is how do we stop it from happening...?

1. um, vote against the recall?
And then vote Bustamante? That's what I would do if I were there.

Oh--and remind all of your Cali friends/coworkers/etc. that the rest of the world is laughing at them right now re. the Terminator. Come on, you really don't want to be the next Ventura state, do you?

2. I say let California have their stupid 'roided-out movie star
if that's who they really want. If the Democrats in that state are lazy enough not to show up and support their party, then that's what they deserve.

My only fear is that a Republican governor would help Bush win CA in 2004, but at this point I don't think it's likely.

3. The Dems aren't lazy in this state any more than are others
That's why we swept every statewide office last year with only one close call (besides governor where the independent vote actually made it more close.)

Unions and other labor friendly groups are organizing against this recall except to the degree that Camejo is out there trying to seduce them into believing he can actually win. They can't spend the money it takes...we just had an election.

The big issue is will people even BE ABLE to get to where they need to vote and will all voters be accomodated. Many precincts won't be open because counties don't have the time to staff them or the money to set it up. The vote itself will be a mess because of the size of the ballot and the number of names. Repubs THRIVE on confusion.

You are right JMach. Arnold doesn't win with Repub votes because there are too many Repubs on the ballot with large followings as well. Ueberroth has great appeal for those who remember the LA Olympics. Simon and Arnold are VERY different and Tom McClintock has a very large following.

4. Notice I said "IF"
I didn't mean to imply that CA dems were lazy, but statistically, the Democrats should have an advantage in this thing if only they stay united (or BECOME united in the first place).

5. I hope enough can 'unite' behind Bustamante
I don't think Davis can survive this...
