Many Southerners and most Texans will be happy to point that out to you. Sad but true that, despite Sam Houston's best efforts they did ultimately join the Confederacy, though. Until (and ever since) then, they've pretty much gone their own way.

Kinda like Florida.

And most of the eastern states (and many in the midwest) were once slave states- which is how US Grant was able to be a slaveowner, so what's your point?

Aren't they all pretty certain that "Rapture" thing is about to happen anyway? I mean isn't that why the Fundies and Bushies are supporting Israel? For God's sake, this country was founded by slaveholders. They expressly included owning slaves in the Constitution.
