Once we caught Saddam, Bushco assured us, the resistance would end. But it didn't.

Then it was al-Sadr's militia. Once we captured or killed al-Sadr, Bushco assured us, the resistance would end. But we seem to have put capturing or killing al-Sadr on the back burner. Because now it's Zarqawi. Once we catch Zarqawi, Bushco assures us, the resistance will end.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the only way the resistance will end is when whoever is really behind this stuff doesn't have us to resist against anymore.*

3. There is no one "behind" this stuff, I think is the more important point

This is a grass roots uprising with only minimal "leadership" control. Since most Americans are fascists, and cannot conceive of popular action without leadership, most are completely confused by this. We need a white whale to rest all the random action of populations on. Saddam, al-Sadr, Zarqawi, whomever...just give us our white whale, our identifiable object!
