Bush Interviewed in Gov't CIA Leak Probe
Hello Du'ers! I just read some rumors on some not so reputable site about what went on in that 70 minutes of testimony... but I sought more information from AP and noticed this:

taken from:
http://apnews.myway.com/article/20040624/D83DIPL80.html

Chris Caldwell, a former Justice Department prosecutor now in private practice in Los Angeles, said few leak investigations ever result in criminal charges. But in highly sensitive cases such as this one, he said, prosecutors want to be sure they have run every possible lead to ground.

"The likelihood of actually finding the source of the leak is very small," Caldwell said.

Why is this? I mean, why is the likelihood so small? It's great how reporters take this kind of response and print it without trying to even get a reason. What is it about the nature of the investigation makes it unlikely that the source wont be found?

Honestly if anyone with a legal background could explain this line of thinking I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Moochy

2. There will be numerous indictments
I think some will relate to the coverup rather than the leak itself. Fitzgerald is a very thorough prosecutor who brought down the governor of Illinois.

6. Resign?
So would Bush resign if he was indicted?

3. Very few leaks fit this description.....
this was leaked by high ranking White House officials, in direct response to an editorial piece that Joseph Wilson wrote exposing the president as a liar. It was intended to psychologically destroy Wilson, scare the heck out of CIA and other MI agents who recognize the administration is full of shit, and create a climate of fear in Washington. Bush &Cheney have created an atmosphere where leaks are not tolerated, unless they okay it. And all of the top media reporters know this.

The leak, as we know, was "offered" to over half a dozen reporters. It became an open secret who was leaking, and why. Of course, they needed to find the sleaziest piece of shit reporter to do their dirty work.

Most leaks occure in an administration where there is far less control of "leaking," and occure on a lower level. Also, when done for such harsh reasons as to destroy people, you do a "mafia talk," where only two or three people know. This is far more like J Edgar Hoover peddling the King tapes. The case is actually "solved" now ... there is more work being done on people who lied to the investigators. As in things from Watergate to Martha Stewart, it's the cover up that often gets people in trouble. Also, you "flip" people at the bottom of the pyramid, and work your way up. They are near the top now. It would take a huge intervention -- equal to the Supreme Court selecting bush in 2000 -- to stop this now.

4. CNN reporting Bush was interviewed today
They said Bush was "interviewed" by Fitzgerald this morning for over an hour. I just found this from The Guardian:

<snip>

WASHINGTON (AP) - Federal investigators questioned President Bush for more than an hour Thursday as the investigation into the leak of a CIA operative's name reached into the Oval Office.

The president was interviewed for 70 minutes by U.S. Attorney Patrick J. Fitzgerald, the head of the Justice Department investigation, and by members of his team. The only other person in the room was Jim Sharp, a private trial lawyer and former federal prosecutor hired by Bush, said White House press secretary Scott McClellan.

And this from CNN's website:

<snip>

Bush was not under oath for the interview, which took place in the Oval Office for about an hour and 10 minutes and was conducted by Patrick Fitzgerald and "members of his team," according to the White House.

The president was joined by Jim Sharp, a personal attorney whom he retained for this case.

The White House would not say when the president hired Sharp, saying only that it was "recently."

5. Just found this in CBS News online story
I am reading through the various reports on Bush's interview today and found this in the story from CBSNews.com (bold emphasis is mine):

<snip>

Even though he has a White House counsel, Mr. Bush is dependent on outside lawyers for private matters. A memo distributed to the staff last year reminded officials that the counsel's office works solely for the president in his official capacity and is not a private attorney for anyone.

Did anyone hear about this memo?
