Is this something to be concerned with, or is it more or less routine?

Justice Department dispatching 'Impact Teams'

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Justice Department is dispatching teams of federal agents to 15 cities struggling with violent crime problems despite a dropping U.S. crime rate, Attorney General John Ashcroft said Thursday.

Ashcroft told reporters that the effort would be targeted at "the hottest zones of criminal activity" in cities where high murder and violence rates persist despite a violent crime rate that is at a 30-year low nationwide, based on federal victimization statistics.

1. death squads maybe?
I wouldn't put it past Ashcroft. Several teams assigned to "take out" "illegal combatants"...

2. Is it unusual or not? I'm just wondering
I mean to send out federal agents to do local- and state-type law enforcement in non-emergency situations.

3. Perhaps one high-profile case, already pending, otherwise, all blah-blah
'course it might be a tad bit more cost-efficient to allocate greater federal support for LOCALLY based initiatives.

6. Damn it! Most of these are swing areas!
Other cities getting teams are Albuquerque, New Mexico; Baltimore; Chattanooga, Tennessee; Tampa, Florida; Miami; Richmond, Virginia; Greensboro, North Carolina; Pittsburgh; Las Vegas; Columbus, Ohio; Philadelphia; Los Angeles; Tucson, Arizona; and the Washington, D.C.-Northern Virginia region.

7. I do not think Ashcroft does things we understand at all.
It is like he is running his own little country. He picks what is 'evil' and off he goes. Maybe these places have people that dance. I understand he is not for dancing. He seems to have gone over the edge on getting rid of evil around the USA and the world for all I know. I recall he was in Russia doing something at one time. The man seems to be a basket case.
