And it just may be time. The latest CPAC-SES tracking poll has the NDP at 21%, with the Liberals 34% and the Conservatives 30%. The numbers have been steady the last few days, and the sample size is a respectable 1,000 (http://www.sesresearch.com/election/SES%20CPAC%20June%2024E.pdf). If this is something like Monday's result, the NDP will make huge gains in a minority Liberal parliament, which will mean the best possible progressive result this election.

I think it's time. And we have a helluva team to elect next Monday!

Random-Burin-St.George candidate Father Ted McGrath

Ottawa South and Ottawa Centre candidates Monia Mazigh and Ed Broadbent

Toronto Centre candidate Michael Shapcott

Trinity Spadina and Toronto Danforth candidates Olivia Chow and Jack Layton

Edmondton Strathcona canadidate Malcolm Azania

1. "Layton sprinting to election campaign's end" - CTV
Declaring it "Super Friday" NDP Leader Jack Layton told supporters to "lace up" their sneakers for the final leg of the election race. Layton is hitting nine communities in 18 hours.

...

At his first stop in Timmins, Ontario, Layton attacked the Liberals, saying the party worked hard to earn a nickname like "Fiberal."

"It doesn't just happen," Layton said. "Who's going to protect health care from Paul Martin?" he asked the crowd.

A man in the audience shouted, "You are, Jack!"

If the NDP holds the balance of power in a minority Government, it could get interesting...

3. Good luck, RB!

I hear your race is a close one. Good luck turfing the Conservative and defeating the slimy turncoat Chris Axworthy.

With the NDP in the high teens-low 20s (and a full 1/4 of the vote in Ontario), and the Liberal and Conservative votes both stalled in the low 30s (that both are so weak is a historical novelty), we stand to make big gains, surprise a lot of people, and be really well positioned to contend for power next time (which may be pretty soon).

5. "Layton makes bold prediction of record number of seats"
Layton makes bold prediction of record number of seats during Ontario blitz

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. (CP) - In the midst of an Ontario blitz designed to create momentum, Jack Layton received two unusual endorsements Friday from a U.S. presidential candidate and disgruntled Liberal organizers.

As the New Democratic leader took off from Timmins Friday morning, independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader issued an open letter suggesting Canadians vote NDP to stop Conservatives from forming government.

As he touched down in Sault Ste. Marie, Layton bounded off the plane to news that senior Liberals in the Hamilton riding of former cabinet minister Sheila Copps are supporting the NDP.

...

"It's unbelievable. When he thought he was going to get a coronation he was kicking progressives out of the Liberal party so he could have a more conservative agenda. The people who know best are now turning out to support the NDP."
