"Kerry's Coalition of the Wild-Eyed" web ad at http://www.georgewbush.com/
Has there been any discussion of this damned thing on the official "Re"-elect Bush website? From the same hypocrites who willfully and completely mischaracterized MoveOn's brief posting of an ad competion entrant with Nazi content comes this hate-filled rant--an attempt to link Gore, Moore, and Kerry with Hitler--on the OFFICIAL site!

(This, btw, seems to be the direction that Gore-bashing might go: his "hysteria" turns into fullbore Adolphery in the wackjob ads of the Web.)

Here's where you play the ad. Sorry you have to go into Bushland:

2. This has been covered extensively here ...

and, by acclamation ... we think it is a GRAND advertisement ...

AGAINST Bush ....

We can only HOPE that this ad hits the airwaves ....

We should spread it far and wide: the ad really makes the comparison between Adolph and Georgie a focus, not a rebuttal ..

<edit: I hate mispellings>

3. We should be celebrating over this
Edited on Fri Jun-25-04 10:59 AM by noahmijo
Even Republicans I bet are covering their faces and wondering how the hell their party can be so stupid as to air something like this..especially after their media shills attacked MoveOn over that contestant that sent that video comparing Bush to Hitler (which Move On plainly didn't even endorse nor even choose as the winner)

This video however is without a doubt total work of the Bush admin and this fact is undeniable.

Thanks Karl Rove, you're making the * administration look dumber than ever and we don't even have to lift a finger.

4. YOUR RIGHT
I showed it to my Republican Friend and he was disgusted. Before I started I said what is wrong with Bush. He just shook his head, and said, "Why wasn Bush in there with Hitler?" He was all confused, it was great!

5. Exactly...

THIS ad juxtaposes the images of Bush and Hitler, and the very ad that moveon rejected: Bush is promoting ...

Rove's apparent STUPIDITY is a coup for the Democrats ...

6. Is this AIRING ON TV, or is this BC04 Website only?
They make the unfortunate mistake of showing the Hitler-Bush footage.

Video trumps audio: regardless of the content of BC04's commercial, if this airs on television, people are going to make that association, even if that's not what they intended.

7. Are they actually AIRING this thing?!
If so, I am simply in awe of their stupidity. I suspect that the Hitler thing is the MoveOn ad entry (NOT sponsored by the site!). But most people watching this will simply think the GOP has gone bonkers and not understand what the point is. The ad is effective in telling the truth about Bush's track record though!

8. That is just utterly stunning.
Either Rove has finally lost his touch. . . or else he's hitting the Wild Turkey a little to hard lately. I mean, the ad pretty much says, "Democrats are Nazis, vote for Bush because he's a nice guy." I especially liked the soft, soothing music there at the end.

To tell the truth, though. . . if you take out the Hitler slices, that'd make a scathing little segment for Bush's Defeat.

I think the crucial mistake here is that BushCo assumes that the voters in this nation don't want a leader who is upset, don't want a leader who is outraged. They want a docile, sedated head on their televisions to tell them that everything is alright. It shows just how out of touch with the reality of our national situation Bush is.

Is he going for the "Little Old Lady" vote here? I can't think of any demographic this appeals to. Most of the right-wing rhetoric that has been effective has been barked out with a firm scoul. Rush, O'Reilly, Hannity. . . the list of angry, "wild-eyed" doomsday prophets goes on and on. This ad is actually more likely to relate the democrats with his core voting base than anything else.

9. Watch carefully...

...the Hitler material is from our side of the fence. Granted, it's from some of our loonier, non-mainstream brothers-in-arms (sort of the equivalent of using Ann Coulter's poo lobbings against Bush), but be assured, the Bush ad isn't *trying* to say "Hey, these crazy Democrats sound like Hitler"... they're trying to say "Hey, these crazy Democrats even compared Bush to Hitler!"

Of course, the ad is so incompetently put together that it leaves one with the impression that the Bushies ARE comparing us to Hitler, which is really funny.

Or is it?

-- tinfoil hat on
Maybe the ad has been put together in an *intentionally* vague way, so that it indeed looks kinda like the Bush campaign is comparing "Wild-Eyed Democrats" to Hitler.

Naturally, Democrats will be outraged, and start complaining about the implicit comparison. When they do, however, GOP agents will be at the ready, patiently explaining that a) The Hitler clips are from the Democratic side of the aisle, and b) Democrats are too stupid to understand campaign ads.

If it goes down like this, the Bushies get to implicitly compare Democrats to Hitler (by "incompetently" crafting an ad), re-inject the "Democrats compared Bush to Hitler" meme into the the news cycle, and make anyone who complains about the ad look stupid.

Pretty diabolical, that.

11. Only reason this ad is getting play is because it is on OFFICIAL SITE
In other words, it is being used DIRECTLY by the George Dumbass Bush campaign. The MoveOn Ad was an entry to a completely seperate organization that didn't have anything to do with John Kerry. So A.) The clip was not from the "Democrats", and B.) The Democrats are on the contrary too intelligent to fall for Bush's lame-ass arguments. Hitler morphing into Al Gore is blatant symbolism that anybody with half a brain will understand (regardless of what Bush might claim).

12. The 'Hitler/Bush" juxtaposition ...
Edited on Fri Jun-25-04 11:52 AM by Trajan
The moveon comparison to Hitler was asleep ...

Now ? ... Bush is reintroducing it to the public psyche .... NOT very wise ...

If one watches the ad: one see's Bush, THEN see's adolph: THOSE images are impressed into the mind of the viewer: NOT that the Democrats said anything: the IMAGES create the impression ...

Furthermore: the righteous indignation of Gore and the others are wonderfully displayed for all to see ...

The exact citation used from the Gore speech" ...they have dragged the good name of the United States of America through the mud of Saddma Husseins Torture Prisons" (sic) ... THAT citation can be considered subjectively honest ...

So: Bush is going to repeat the honest claims of the opposition in his OWN ads ? ...

I think the american people were JUST as disgusted, by and large, as Gore was : Gore gives a voice to THEIR inner beliefs: ...

And Bush is helping them see that ....

The moveon ad is secondary ... no one is going to 'get' that ...

What they WILL get is: Democrats defending the honor of their own nation while Bush and Adolph switch places ...

Hardly a positive result for Bush ...

13. I'm just throwing it out as a possibility...

You're right, the moveon comparison to Hitler WAS asleep. If the GOP had trotted out an ad focusing on it, complete with voice-overs ("The Democrats even compared Bush to Hitler"), no one would have paid much attention to it...it's old news, after all.

So how do you, a GOP operative, get it back into the news? You splice the MoveOn entries into a web-only ad featuring a bunch of fairly innocuous clips of Democrats with the dander up, but you do it in such a confusing manner that, to the non-discerning viewer, it looks as though the Bush campaign is comparing Democrats to Hitler.

Then you sit back and wait for non-discerning Democrats (including, sadly, the Kerry campaign) to complain about the Bush campign's use of Hitler in its ads. It becomes a topic of conversation for the Sunday talk shows, allowing you to trot out the discarded MoveOn Hitler ads for yet another news cycle. Suddenly, no one's talking about the merits of the Moore, Gore, and Gephardt clips; they're all focusing on those stupid pointless MoveOn contest entries, and how stupid Deomcrats are for being unable to recognize their own (totally repudiated) ads.

And as a bonus, you STILL got to subliminally compare the Democrats to Hitler.

Evil, no?

Mike.
