3 things I think of regarding Michael Moore.......

1. The scene in his movie, "Canadian Bacon" in which John Candy is is stopped by the Canadian policeman played by Dan Ackroid. Candy and his 2 idiot buddies have stolen a truck and are driving to make war on Canada. They've also written graffiti on the truck with things like "Canada Sucks," and Screw Canada." Ackroid pulls them over because they didn't write the graffiti in French, as well. The fine is 2000 dollars Canadian or $8.50 US. They pay the $8.50 and Ackroid hands them a can of spray paint and tells them to write the graffiti in French as well.

2. On the cable TV show he had he did something to the CEO of BFI, the dumpster company that was just great. He hired a dumpster truck with a dumpster and had the truck go to the CEO's house at 4 am and bang the dumpster lid closed..... over and over and over.... until the CEO came out in his robe and Moore asked him how he liked the noise since his company was doing the same to people every night. The cops came.

3. In "Roger and Me," he asked auto exec's if they'd change his oil. A Ford guy said sure. Took his coat and tie off, got under Moore's pick-up and changed his oil and filter. Showed a damn good sense of PR for Ford, if you ask me.

2. I loved that Canadian Bacon scene.

As a whole, not a a terribly good film, but I love that scene, and the propaganda war being waged by the U.S. govt.: "Canadians. They walk among us."

3. Gutsy... I always heard that BFI was

8. And I've always heard the BFI was the only one of the big garbage,

excuese me, waste managment, companies that held out against organized crime ownership...

It might be interesting to find out which is the truth or if either is the whole truth.

4. I think the Ford CEO thing was on his TV show, but it was a great

response by Ford. Showed they had a sense of humor, and the CEO did very well on TV changing oil.

5. Was it Michael Moore's show that had "The Gay Team?"

They were a troupe of flaming homosexual protestors with big gay RV who would follow the Rev. Fred Phelps around the country. Every time Phelps protested they would dance to the Village People. And they'd keep their RV "a-rockin'". The reactions on the faces of the Phelps clan was priceless.

My favorite line from "Canadian Bacon" was Moore's cameo: "It's time we put America back in North America!"

I liked the K-Mart-headquarters interaction in 'Bowling for Columbine.'

7. From TVNation

I liked his going over to Moscow to find the nuclear missile that was pointed at Flint, Michigan. They finally get some sort of info and head out in a van into the countryside and come across some dilapidated "military installation" if you can call it that. They pull up to it, and some troops come out and tell them to go away, but Michael wants to talk with them, and they decide to hold him and his crew there while they call their superiors. They were there for hours, but they were allowed to sit in their van. They had an extra camera, and someone was filming from the back of the van - Micahel and his driver were in front, and they were joking around. Michael said something about, "Get the camera ready. I'm going to bust out of here and go running across the snow as fast as I can before they shoot me down!" Much laughing and snorting ensued.

I also liked how they hired a private security guard to roam the sidewalk outside of the White House after Jesse Helms made that threat against Bill Clinton about needing a bodyguard if he ever came to his state.

9. "Haulin' Communism", from TVNation

It was also featured in his book "Adventures in a TV Nation", too. MM hired a red semi, with a gold hammer and sickle on it, to haul a bunch of communist stuff from NYC to Louisiana, where it was to be put on a garbage scow and hauled out to sea. He did it so that the country could finally wave goodbye to communism, as the Soviet Union had collapsed the previous year.

The poor driver got a lot of weird (even threatening) looks from people, especially as he headed for the deep south. They'd ask him what was in the truck, and he'd reply "just a bunch of communisim". Truckers on their CBs would threaten him, he'd get offhanded threats at truckstops, and finally somebody torched the cab of his truck, just because of the hammer and sickle.

After the arson, they stopped the bit, but it was still really interesting to see what kind of emotional reaction you could get from some people with just a red semi-- especially from "god-fearin'" Americans who'd probably never even read Marx before.

10. I always think of the Car Alarm Company CEO from "TV Nation."

Moore parked an assload of cars outside of his house in the wee hours of the morning, and simultaneously set all of their car alarms off...

11. Love Night from TV Nation

Specifically, serenading Jesse Helms with "On the street where you live" from My Fair Lady. And the cheerleaders singing "Stop in the name of love," outside some white supremacist camp.

12. Remember the Cobb County Georgia segment

on TV Nation? That was Newt's district. He asked boaters on a federally funded lake what they thought about government and most of them said that they wanted government "off their backs", because that was the big RW talking point of the day. He basically asked them to quit using lake because it was government funded. :D

13. Canadian Bacon

I thought he wimped out with Canadian Bacon, and should have taken it in a Strangelove direction:

The Canadians are concerned about all the huffing and puffing from south of the border, so they ask England for some help in finding out what all the hubub is for. To the world's dismay, the White House spinsters see this as another opportunity: Who were the tyrants we rebelled from? Who invaded our shores and burnt the White House? Who has a 500 year track-record of pursuing Global Domination? And they have the Bomb!
