F-911/Audience size/reaction for your area

Since a lot of people are going to be seeing this film today, I thought it might be interesting to do random checks from around the country regarding attendance, audience reaction, right-wing disruptions etc.

I just returned from seeing the 11:00 am showing at a large multiplex in Johnson County, KS (not exactly a Democratic stronghold). I was disappointed that the theater was half full, but at the end the film got a thunderous standing ovation.

Even better, coming out of the movie the line for the next showing (which was 40 minutes later, so people showed up early) was so huge they had to put up stanchions to keep the F-911 line away from the other entrances. And the queue was FULL. In Republican Kansas.

Looks like a good start in the heartland.

They had all of us waiting to see the show wait in a cordoned off area, surprising amount of senior citizens in the crowd with a police officer outside the theater door having people show their ticket stubs on the way in. Was not sold out but there were very few empty seats. On our way out there were lots of people waiting in line to see the next two showings. Great movie, hopefully after a good revenue weekend we will get it here in St. Petersburg soon. People throughout the theater were talking with their neighbors about how much we were mislead. We are going to buy copies of the movie when it comes out on DVD, hopefully, before the election and send it to our relatives in rural NE. MM is my hero!

I haven't heard about crowds yet, but my son was at the midnite show at the UNIVERSAL City Walk theater last night. I love the irony of showing a movie that Disney paid for and tried to stop at their largest competitor.

I'd say the theater was about 1/3 full. We laughed, cried and clapped at the end. I'm sure they'll sell out the evening shows. Normally a matinee like this has about 5 or 10 people.
A very good movie. Moore did a great job tying together alot of the Saudi, Haliburton, James R. Bath, Harken, Taliban and Unocal links.
The interviews with the soldiers were very telling and moving. And Lila Pederson, wow, I'm going to have to pay here a visit up in Flint.

The James Bath stuff I found very interesting. And I am currently listening to "Worse than Watergate", Cheney's slime and has a really bad ticker.

Looks like every evening show was sold out. The audience applauded at the end and at various points in the film and the reaction in general seemed positive.

Personally I was a bit underwhelmed by the film and I find all the unqualified praise a bit dittoheadish. While I generally agree with MM's point of view, I didn't really learn anything new, and I thought too much artistic license was taken at times and that certain facts were omitted so as to keep the film from being too complicated. I found the images and music together to be pretty cliche and formulaic, particularly the Shiny Happy People bit. I wonder if he threw that in to make Michael Stipe happy cuz I didn't really need to see a minute and a half of Bushies shaking hands with Saudi royals to get the point.

Even so, I think the film is an effective piece of propaganda and I don't mean that to be negative. Perhaps a four hour documentary that was a bit more nuanced in its approach to 9/11 and the war would have been more informative, but I don't think it would have motivated me to work for the Democrats as much as seeing W's smug, ignorant ass juxtaposed next to all of that death, pain and suffering. Is this movie one sided? Yes, but it's one side we haven't really seen on television or in major movies at all. Even if it is a bit overly simplistic, it's much much closer to the whole truth than the horseshit narrative that the Bush administration and conservatives have been feeding us for the past 3 years.

That most of the people seeing this film are probably far less informed than you are with a rather short sense of history as well.

I don't think the point of Moore's film was to document and detail every single transgretion of this administration. Nobody has that kind of time, and besides it would make it such a
d:boring:o:boring: c:boring: u:boring: m:boring: e:boring: n:boring: t:boring: a:boring: r:boring: y.

I could tell from the gasps, sniffles and protests around me that this was about 80% new information for many of those around me. It had to have some entertainment value or it would be just too difficult and exausting and overwhelming to take for many.

I believe M.M. struck an excellent balance with this film, and I hope and believe it will be considered an important film in history.

I went and saw FH/911 again today. The theater was sold out again. I think I expected too much the first time I saw it. It's a compelling counter-narrative to what we have all been told by the mainstream media about the 2000 election, 9/11, and Iraq. He did a great job just getting some of the footage and the fact that he could pull off a film this good covering the 2000 election, 9/11, Afghanistan, the Patriot Act and the Iraq war is a testament to what a remarkable editing job he did. He probably could have made a documentary on any of those topics alone that would have had more depth, but I can understand why he chose to cover them all. There were several powerful scenes that connected with me and the entire audience. I just hope that people who ae not generally political or are undecideds will see this film because at very least I think FH/911 will get people to question not just this administration but alot of other things in the status quo that the mainstream media never would lead them to consider.

I caught the 10am showing today. Had to wait in a long line to get a ticket. There were a lot of people for the first showing. The reaction was really good by the crowd. At the end there was loud applause. There was a line of people waiting to get into see the next showing, as well as a long line to buy tickets.

21. Packed in Bush Country

I went to a theater in North Austin for the 12pm showing today and it was a full house. Thank Goddess for Fandango because I got there 30 minutes early and the lines were loooong.

When I left the theater, the lines were 3-4 times longer for the next showing. It was hard to exit due to all the people blocking the door ways. I spotted a TV camera but I was too numb to go over and feed my curiosity to find out what they were saying.

No disruptions. No protests from what I could see.

The movie. What can I say? It exceeded my very high expectation. I'm still processing much of it so it's hard to go into detail. I plan on taking my husband to see it tonight or tomorrow. This time I'll bring my Kleenex.

on edit: I forgot to mention what the crowd was like...mostly Caucasian, but good mix of young and old, preppy, hippie, men women. I noticed much more minorities waiting for the next show though so that's good. The larger the variety, the better. Lots of laughter about Bush, clapping, crying, appropriate gasping and everyone applauded the end.

The house was half full (on a weekday morning, thats pretty good) The crowd was a very interesting mix of people...Black, white, young and old...hippy & preppy.....You name it.

Four patrol cars outside..but no disruptors...darn it.


There was laughter at Bush and applause at the end...and I've really been looking forward to it, I was not a bit disappointed.

...Theatre full with just a seat here and there open, close to 200 people. I talked to the man next to me. We had both come from over half an hour away. Long line to buy tickets, I had purchased mine the night before. When I left people were standing in line for the next show starting in 30 minutes and there was a long line still buying tickets. The 7:30 show is already sold out.

67. In La Jolla, California, two out of four theaters

in the La Jolla Village Theaters (a Landmark theater) were needed to accommodate the crowds. The first showing was at 11:15 a.m. and then there were shows about every 1.5 hours afterwards.

My wife and I arrived at 10:45 a.m. and got in a HUGE line. We didn't get our tickets until 11:10 a.m., and by then the 11:15 a.m. was sold out, so we got tickets to the Noon show. So meanwhile we had quick brunch at a neighboring Deli which was offering 10% off for anyone with ticket stubbs from that theater. By the time we entered the theater there was a huge line for the 1:50 p.m. showing. By the time we exited, there was another huge line for the 2:30 p.m. showing, and the Deli was packed!

THIS IS THE POLITICAL EVENT OF THE YEAR! I am really greatful to Michael Moore for putting it all together so artfully and effectively (the details as well as the whole really hit you in the gut) and it contained all kinds of stuff I wasn't even aware of myself, and I worked for Howard Dean's campaign in 2003... I didn't realize the extent of the ties, for instance, the Taliban and the Saudi Royals had with the Bush family/Carlyle, Halliburton, Enron, etc. And I didn't know Michael Moore had a copy of Bush's military record prior to its release and that James R. Bath's name also appears on his copy but was blocked out the released copy. Nor did I know who Bath was and the research Moore did to dig up dirt on him once he realized Bath's name had been blocked out on the released copy. I had never heard of James R. Bath before.

The theater was full for the first showing at 1:05 pm today in this strongly republican part of the state. There was a line at the box office, and only one "protestor" showed up; he didn't look old enough to vote, looked like a typical freeptard, and looked extremely intimidated by the number of people who had shown up to see F 9/11. There was intermittent applause throughout the movie, no disruptions, and loud applause at the end of the movie. I was amazed and elated at the turnout considering how conservative this area is.

It is the only place in middle TN showing the film right now. The rest of the showings are sold out also. The audience reaction was splendid; standing ovation at the end of the film.

The only negative I heard was after the film. A guy behind us was grousing about why didn't MM sign up and go to Iraq, blah blah. The guy next to responded by saying, MM is too busy making millions off the film.
I promptly turned around and asked him if he had his enlistment form filled out yet. I think he went into shock. :)

First showing in the area - had about 100 people there. Not a big crowd, but a crowd that was into the movie nonetheless.

There were all types of people there, and not a dry eye in the house after some of the scenes.

I went with my father and we were both stunned by the movie.

My father said that it was the hardest movie he ever had to watch, but also one of the best.

How anyone can vote for Bush after seeing that is beyond me. No wonder the GOP wants it banned.

40. Just saw it in Atlanta

The 7:40 showing at Phipps Plaza at the AMC. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was playing on three screens simultaneously. I heard someone say that it was sold out, and judging by the theater I was sitting in, I didn't see empty seats.

A security guard was posted at each theater, and tickets were being checked for each person before they entered.

The film was an amazing piece of art. It was so engaging -- so moving -- that anyone who takes the time to see it will think about it long afterward.

The visuals are amazing, and the editing, music and pacing made it seem shorter than it's nearly two hour running time.

I was sitting next to three people, who appeared to be college students. We take it for granted that we have the knowledge of what we read on DU. The reaction I heard around me was, "what the hell?" Some people were truly shocked at the level of deceit, arrogance and out right lies of Bush and his administration.

I learned stuff from the film I didn't know about. For example, the ties to the Bin Laden family run much deeper than you think. It made me uncomfortable sitting there listening to the movie, and knowing that we went to war with Iraq based on false pretenses and distortions.

This movie will take you through all emotions.

On my way home, I turned on a talk radio station just to hear what was being talked about. Of course it was Moore's film, and the right wing host was saying how everything about it is a lie, and no part of it is true.

The host himself was lying. You see, the information in the movie is documented. Copies of actual documents and video footage you've never seen are the hard pieces of evidence.

Truth has a way of exposing corruption if it has a chance at the light. I believe Moore's movie is exposing the lies of Bush and his administration to an audience that would have not heard about them otherwise.

Of course those on the far right and the die hard Bush supporter's won't see the movie. It is their loss. For people that do see it, the things that Bush defenders say will seem patently absurd to them.

Fahrenheit 9/11 was a hell of an experience. I left feeling that Bush was even more of a buffoon and imbecile than I had even realized. Plus, I was angry that there was so much that the media could have exposed, and chose not to.

A lady who looked to be in her late 40's, early 50's remarked while leaving that she felt the protest spirit pumping in her veins. It gives me hope that the good may actually prevail in the end.

The 7:10 was almost full... there were empty seats that I could determine. It looked like the next showing had a long line.

I was thinking along the same line regarding the impact on those that saw the movie. Yes, they were mostly going to be those of the Democratic influence. And I saw a lot of fellow Democratic friends. But there were many that I had never seen before and they may have had their eyes opened more and realize they need to do more than just vote.

I was pleasantly surprised at the range in ages of those attending the movie. It gives me hope that we all can make a difference.

I have despised gw* and his people about as much as anyone can despise anyone. Or at least thought so until MM's movie. Creating this movie and putting everything into content makes it more hard hitting.

I didn't bother listening to the local talk to see if there was any feedback. Tomorrow there will probably be plenty of it in the morning with the rags that we have.

...at the 7:55 showing at Cinemark. If it wasn't a full sellout, it was pretty darn close, and this is a BIG theater. A manager even came in to ask people to move over to free up seats for others. I saw a couple of police officers (or security guards?) in the lobby but there were no protesters or outbursts (that I witnessed anyway). The only negative thing I heard was people coming in for other movies complaining that the lines were too long. I think there were more people waiting to get into the next show than there were for the 7:55. Out of curiosity, I looked around to see what kind of people were there. Mainly white, seemed to be a pretty even mix of young and old.

I think the theater seats was about half to 3/4s full. I am glad to hear that the later shows were full or almost full. We also had a sitting ovation, but a kind of rowdy crowd calling out insults at the screen and then total silence and crying for most of the last half of the movie.

I am going to see it again, I really would like to see it with a huge crowd. My son is also going and I am trying to convince him to bring lots of his friends and go early.

I was at 7PM. This theater was sold out from 2pm on. Glad I got my ticket on Fandango.

Just saw on the local news (WTAE-4) that movie sold out all over Pittsburgh. Talked to some film goers. One thought it was too partisan but did make it's point and she had learned things she never knew before and she thought they were true. According to the announcement at the beginning of the 11:45 PM Friday showing. They began screening it at midnight Friday on two screens and were showing it on the hour. They added one additional showing at 12:15 AM Saturday and it too sold out. It was an experience. Lots of conversation both in line and lots of interchanges among people inside the theater during the movie. I have never seen such an electrified crowd for ANY movie premiere that I have ever attended.

I too saw the Sanitarium interview. He did not look happy. He can call 1-800-AHT-WAAH as far as I am concerned. All the right wing talk show blather that the mouthpieces pumped out could not deter people from seeing it. Word of mouth should keep the momentum going. All I can say is theaters that bowed to pressure not to screen it must be kicking themselves since they lost a ton of money.

Theater about 3/4 full, but it was an afternoon, showing. You hardly ever see full houses or even half full houses on a work day in the afternoon.

Reaction was enthusiastically good. No freepers in evidence, at least none that tried to start touble. The theater (AMC) had a cop stationed inside the theater to deter problems. The only disruption came when they showed the seven minutes of silence, when a guy on the front row yelled "Maybe that's becasue he knew about it in advance," and I answered, "No maybe about it!" We were applauded.

Went to see the 7:30 show in Fairfax. Theatre was full. We got there 45 minutes early and the theatre was already occupied. By the time the show started, there weren't many empty seats. The audience applauded at the end.

I live in a very small town. Population 7,000. We have a college town nearby, they are showing it at one theater. That sold out, they came down to my little theater. The movie was suppose to start at 7:30. At 7:45 the show was sold out, and the line went up the street.

When leaving, the line went both directions up & down the block, I know for sure that show sold out also.

While I was getting my tickets, the people behind me told the ticket person their son was in Iraq. They got in for free.

Later on after we sat down and before the movie started I went to go get refreshments, while coming back I noticed the wife sitting in the back row. I tapped her on the shoulder and mentioned that I had overheard her earlier, and that I was praying for her son. She teared up, and told me that that really means alot to her, since her son is in Fallujah.

I live in the republican stronghold...the whole experience was...earth shattering...

Largest theater in the complex. I got there 30 minutes early, and was about #100 in line. If it wasn't a sell-out, there were only maybe a few single seats here and there empty.

As I left the theater, with red, puffy eyes, and smeared eyeliner, people in line for the next show (a line that snaked around the back) looked at me, observing the obvious emotion. I remembered standing in line, and seeing a woman sitting on the bench nearby. She was crying a little, and I wondered what was wrong, forgetting there had been another show before this. As I left, I thought of her. I was still crying a little too.

I went to the 10:50 and the 4:45 showings. They were both full houses, but the latter had people sitting in the steps, too.

The earlier crowd was more vocal. I guess that's because the "true believers" attended the first showing opening day. The later showing had a lot more gasping, I guess at stuff they hadn't seen before, like Rummy shaking hands with Hussein, the carnage in Iraq, and the stiffing of veterans at home. The last one was a biggie. El Paso is a military town.

The film broke at the very end of the first showing (at the "fool me once" part), and you could tell how angry people were by their reaction to the interruption. Yells, clapping and stamping, and boos. Nobody would have yelled like that if Shrek had been interrupted.

No protestors, but the local ABC and CBS affiliates were outside the theater after the 4:45 showing got out.

Sold out, with exception of three seats. Almost everyone in the showing had WTF reactions, disbelief, crying, shock and awe. I overheard a lot of people on the way out saying how much truth was in that film, and suprisingly that M.M. didn't even have to talk much. The Bush Admin did all the talking (doublespeak) for him. From what I saw, some in Columbus (Dublin Area) just got woke up. Very moving film, very moving.

Great experience. The group was very attentive to the film and wasn't shy about reacting to it.

Atlanta here, AMC Phipps Plaza for the 4:50 showing. Got there an hour early (we had bought tickets in advance). There was already a line at 4 p.m. This is a large multiplex, but we were put in one of the smaller screening rooms. Glad we were in early part of the line, because the theater filled up fast. Noticed they'd opened another screen as we left. The crowd filled ours except for the front two rows, looked like all the seats were taken by the time the film started.

The crowd was a mix of black, white, young adults and old. The same reaction, applause, boos, cheers throughout the film with applause at the end, and lots of tears. My sister was almost sobbing. The man sitting next to me was silent through the whole movie until the end when he stood to applaud.

Wore blue (for MoveOn!!) and there were others wearing blue too. Met up with a group of friends from a coalition that had worked our hearts out this past year trying to get voter verified paper ballots for our touch screen computer ate my vote Diebold system. We lost that battle . . . but I can not express the feeling of seeing what we already knew about, for the most part, being up there on the big screen. Michael Moore is an American hero in my book. I know about living in fear, after working on the voting issue in this town, and can not imagine the courage it took for him to make this movie against all odds and putting himself up against the bush cartel and the bloody corporate media.

My sister said, "What can I do?" I said, log on to Democracy for America and sign their petition for voter verified paper ballots! And vote for Cynthia McKinney.

There were things I hadn't seen and didn't know. I didn't know about the huge crowds in Washington protesting the inauguration of bush thief, the egg throwing, and I had never seen footage of the African Americans in the House who were trying to stop the appointment of Bush to the presidency. Seeing how they were dishonored was a painful experience.

Went to the 4:30 show today at the Regal Cinema Marketplace 24 in Oaks, PA - that is in southwestern Montgomery County. Nearly sold out. Very good reaction - the crowd had some applause during the movie and a loud applause at the end. Some people were standing during the ending applause. There were also some cheers/whoops. The audience laughed at Bush and his misadministration members' stupid moments (Ashcroft's song got a lot,) and also laughed at Britney. An elderly couple in front of us kept saying things like "that's right." No disruptions, and I didn't notice any boos or jeers.

I loved the movie! Very affecting. I thought he picked the perfect way to end. Don't want to spoil it for people who haven't seen it.

stood in line for 15 minutes with two black hi schoolers(in front) and a 50something couple in back. One group of 3 teenage girls walked by and said "Go Bush"

It showed in the largest theater of the 30 plex (500-600 seats) which was 90% full. we sat next to 2 teenage boys and a couple our age (40's) the boys said they came because they thought it would be funny (it wasn't really).

In Response to the congressman asking MM "do you know what it would be like if congress read every bill before we voted on it?" the kid said "Work?"

During the film there was laughter and tears and a few cheers, and about half the crowd gave it a standing O, and there was a lot of muttering among the crowd at different points.

The couple on the other side didn't move as the theater emptied. My husband had talked to the man for quite a while before the film sharing their military experience and the man said his son was in a medic in the 1st Marines in Fallujah. He also said he was glad his son wasn't sent back, and had missed the stop loss orders, so he would be home soon.

He said that he supported Bush in the war and that he was undecided on the election, but was willing to listen to all points of view.

When the film was over the couple didn't move and I looked over and the man was in tears. His wife looked like she'd been punched in the gut. The man then said that his son told him the brass was lying about the casualties, and that brass had come by after the first day of fighting and pulled the records of the 6 men killed and they never showed up in the KIA numbers. We thanked the man for his son's service and that we were glad he was home safe.

Outside the theater, people were walking around with MoveOn.org flyers on red paper, but I couldn't find the "flyerers" to thank them and see if they needed any Voter Reg cards :(

7pm show---approx. 300 seat theatre that had (at our quick count after the last people appeared) about 9 empty seats. People coming in late seemed shocked that they had to find single seats.

Quite a mix of people as well---mainly seemed from 30-70ish. Quiet group that seemed on edge at the start. The scene with the congressman claiming that he had a toll free number and Moore puting his actual office number up got a big laugh and fair amount of applause. The soldier saying he would ask Rumsfeld to resign also got applause. Few scattered laughs here and there, a few pockets of applause at other moments but overall very quiet. To my great surprise, there was general applause at the end and about 50 of us scattered around stood and applauded. People seemed to leave quickly and quietly.

Frankly, this is the area McMurtry talked about in his review of Clinton's book: the Floydada corridor. Plenty of Clinton autobiographies in the small displays in the two chain book stores--they aren't selling here! I heard that the 3 pm first showing of F911 was about 1/2 full. That approximately 400 saw it in 2 shows is phenomenal. That there was such and obvious mix of people is even more surprising.

The film was better than I even hoped.

The next showing was pretty much sold out by the end of the movie, with a large line of people snaking around in an area I've never seen people waiting in.

A lot of laughing the first half, but near the end you could hear a pin drop (except for the sound of the movie, of course). The audience was relatively young, and I think there were more than a few people there who were going along with friends, etc., and for whom this was pretty shocking.

My wife was absolutely shocked by the Bin Laden/Saudi/Bush links, which she didn't really know much about.

102. Montgomery, Alabama report

More than half the tickets for the 8:00 pm show were sold when we picked up our pre-purchased tickets at 6:00. By the time the movie started the theater was packed - had to be a sell out or very nearly one. My group of four was probably the last to actually find seats together, though we had to sit on the very front row.

Surprisingly Freeper-free (please remember that when the next round of Alabama-bashing gets underway here!). Crowd was extremely diverse, all ages, all races. The audience was very supportive, lots of laughing and clapping, especially at the end. There was also quite a bit of absolute silence at several points in the movie. The largest round of applause during the movie came when the soldier at the VA hospital in the states talked about his past as a Republican but his intention in the future to do all he could to actively campaign for the Democratic party.

As we were leaving, we ran into three different groups of people from our town (Auburn) who had also made the 50 mile drive to Montgomery for opening night. I know there were others, including a group of Auburn University Democrats, but I didn't see them. Too bad Carmike wouldn't book the movie in Auburn - probably would have had twice the interest it garnered in our sorry state capitol.

Talk about mega-turnout!!! They had to move the 7:35 showing down the street to a bigger theatre to accomodate the crowds! UnFREAKINbelievable!

I got to see it at 5:00 (along with a dozen other local DUers), and it was really impressive, IMHO. This film should be required viewing for ALL Americans. Most of the stuff was old news to many of us who've been keeping up with this stuff-- but there were still some shockers nonetheless.

Be aware, though, that Moore doesn't pull any punches with the Democrats, either. F911 certainly did not paint the Senate Democrats in a good light after the 2000 recount debacle (you'll get it when you see the film). Very disappointing indeed, and it wasn't just the spineless leadership, either.

It was a WONDERFUL experience! And a great DU gathering! After the movie we adjourned to a nearby pub and and spent another couple hours happily ranting amongst ourselves. When we finally spilled outside to take our leave of each other, we could see the lines outside BOTH theaters!

The newly added second -- and LARGER -- theater had a line stretching around the corner and down the block! It was pretty amazing -- and really heartening!

Went to a 4pm showing with five friends (I'm visiting from out of town). Theater was mostly full. The film BROKE about five minutes from the end-there was nearly a riot! (Cops were even brought in). They fixed the film, so we did get to see the ending (much applause). When we left, the theater management were announcing that they had opened up a second theater, and the line stretched out the theaters and into the streets for the next showings! It was like a "star wars" opening. :-)

They were turning people away. This is at a movie theater that is losing money. Some people were in line saying this was the second time they were seeing it. The people selling tickets were spooked and they had extra security on the doors and in the theater. It was one of three theaters in town showing it. I'm posting a review on a separate thread.

It wasn't sold out, but the theater was nearly full. It was pretty early in the afternoon. The next show (7:10) was sold out and there was a long line already when we exited the theater.

At the end of the film, we all applauded (and there was much applause during certain moments). Someone yelled out "November 2nd!" when we left the theater. Mainly we all had dazed faces from what we had witnessed for the last two hours.

Wow, I didn't believe that I could hate George Bush any more, but this film proved that I could.

to ensure a Freep-free viewing. They increased the showings, beginning at 11 a.m. I attended a 4:30 showing and it was packed, The 1:00 show was sold out, too. I sat next to four black people and they were very vocal about what's happening and one lady (church lady type) said that everyone should see this film.

F-9/11 is only being shown in 3 area theatres – Spartanburg, SC, Greenville, SC, and Asheville, NC, but it's selling out everywhere it's shown.

Originally they'd scheduled it for one of the mid-sized screens, but apparently they sold enough tickets that they had to move it to one of the two largest screens up front, and it was still sold out. Went to the 7:30 showing tonight (Loews theater, approximately 400+ seating capacity, 98% full; Richmond Hts. is a suburb east of Cleveland). There was a 30 second ovation when it was over, with a smattering of people standing - I have never seen anything like before in my life. Sitting to my left were 2 eleven or twelve year old boys - they were accompanied by their mother (I'm guessing she was their mother); at the end, the boys broke out into applause along with their mother. To my right was a 35+ couple on a date; heard him say he did not vote for Bush in 2000. I was curious to see his response to the film, but I was disappointed. He didn't say a word the entire film, neither did his date. I was walking near them in the parking lot afterwards, and they still weren't talking. I couldn't tell if they were in shock or what. The crowd was mostly white, mixed in age, from the 12-year-olds to the elderly. It's hard to say what the political breakdown is in this area, but if I had to guess, I'd say that it's generally moderate to liberal, but with many Democrats having supported Bush in 2000.

There was laughter and tears throughout the film at all the appropriate places. There were no protests* and afterward, MoveOn.org passed out bumper stickers in the lobby. There was a long line 3-4 people deep going out the door when I left, and those people looked pretty excited to get in and see it for themselves.

*I saw on the news before leaving for the theater that the art house theater in Cleveland Hts. (strongly liberal area) DID have protesters out front, and I saw them on the report, they had signs and were chanting in front of the cameras. F9/11 is showing in 4 theaters in my area, 3 of them multiplexs.

It was a phenomenal experience!

When I first checked where they'd be showing it in New Hampshire there was only one theater listed. It would have been over a three hour drive. With my sister, brother-in-law, and 84 yr. old Dad (a WW2 Vet.) Don't know if it was sold out, (I bought my tickets earlier just to be sure I could get them) but if not, it was close. I was pleased to see a real mix of folks, particularly lots of young people. True to Minnesota form, there weren't any people who yelled anything out, though the young men behind me did boo bush at one point. At the times you would expect people were weaping, the man next me removed his glasses and wiped his eyes, the young men behind me were crying too, one woman was sobbing, and I was not exception. There were also periods of absolute silence. I will be going again to take my daughter and hopefully my mom. I was so impressed at this kind of showing at a mantinee on the second day the movie was out.

I needed to edit to add that this showing is additionally impressive as there is a big community festival this weekend that could draw folks away.

MM is the most effective counter to the non-existent free-press left in America. F9/11 played to a packed house, raucous at times, but when the sounds of the attack filled the theater the only sound we made were the occasional soft sob, the only movement was to wipe away tears. My date (a film school grad) commented that while he is a genius, he is only preaching to the choir. At first I thought that was kind of a negative reaction, but she is dead right. It is now up to us, the choir to bring this song of truth to the flock.

153. Portland Oregon and Nader supporters

I saw the first showing on Friday morning. The theater was full for the 11:10 AM show. The movie is awesome, the crowd cheered and applauded at the end. I laughed, cried, was shocked and horrified. It was even better than I had imagined.

After the show, someone was handing out Nader fliers IN THE THEATER and posted Nader fliers on all the cars in the parking lot. I refused the flier in the theater, and wadded the one up on my truck (and recycled of course).

Its been said that the Republicans are behind the Nader support here in Oregon to draw votes from Kerry. The guy handing out the Nadar fliers struck me as a right-winger for some reason or another.

I spoke with a friend who said all shows between friday and sunday had been sold out and she couldn't get tickets til monday at the earliest.

festive atmosphere, much applause, especially at end, a few gasps here and there but I think mostly it was preaching to the choir who already knew some of the script.

Personally, I laughed through much of it realizing what was Moore was going to do with many scenes having read about most of the Bushco history already. Of course, there were very moving scenes too - many tears and crying for the Mother of the dead soldier.

Bush came off as a total buffone. At times it almost seemed like fiction - can Bush be such an idiot and so corrupt at the same time? But, of course, it was all actual footage. The fact that this movie was even made and is exposing a sitting President is totally fantastic and a little unbelievable that Moore could get it done.

What fun Moore must have had when making this.

"Over 800 of our most patriotic men and women have died for an illegal war in Iraq," said Karen Trietsch, one of the three women wearing pink wigs and clothing outside a Boulder movie theater. "People will come out of the theater wanting to do something."


The three are members of the Boulder chapter of CodePink, a national peace and social-justice movement. They and others distributed information criticizing the Bush administration to movie patrons at the Landmark Crossroads theater at 2985 Pearl St.

Nick True, a student at Niwot High School, said he has not decided how he'll vote in November and came to see Moore's anti-Bush movie and get different points of view. He said he wasn't impressed by CodePink.

When I saw "Rocky" the first time my friends and I played around punching each other the rest of the night.

When I saw "Smokey and the Bandit" as soon as I left the theater I wanted to drive 95 mph and squeal my tires.

When I left this movie early this evening, I thought I was going to be sick I was so upset.
I already knew what kind of crap we were being sold but it was a kick in the stomach to have it verified.

Theater about 75% full - 550 seat capacity.
It was unusual in that it's the first movie that I've seen where there was dead silence for prolonged periods of time.

I'm in Missouri and the Ashcroft "can't beat a dead man" sequence caused the theater to erupt in laughter and loud clapping.

One person yelled out at the screen "Lying bastard!" and a huge wave of spontaneous clapping occurred.

I'll admit it, I was crying about 5 minutes into the movie and I noticed that others were openly weeping as well.

The screen going dark and the sounds of New York City (my birthplace) having a huge hole torn into it's soul was very disturbing.
People running through what looked like a snowstorm of ash and shredded paper was hard to watch.

I don't know if this is going to change anything but I do know this. Sometimes all it takes is someone to pull the curtain back to allow us all to see what is being hidden from us.

Mr. Moore has created a contemporary classic and I can't wait to what kind of venom Rush, Hannity, Ingraham, Savage and Coulter are going to be spewing next week.

This ain't a movie, it's a event.

169. Westminster, CO, AMC, last night,, after more time to muse....

7:00 show, sold out, theater packed. The mood before the movie was like a party, people talking to each other, my husband and I struck up conversations with several other people who were in line and in the theater. As I said in my previous post, the theater moved the film to a larger screen due to demand. We got there 45 min early and the theater was 1/4 full, filled up by 6:40. People were milling about down front, again that party atmosphere. Quite a few t shirts with anti Bush sentiment, and Kerry pins.
The most encouraging thing I saw were the numbers of young 18-25 people there.
After the movie,we walked out behind two groups of these younger viewers who were excitedly talking to each other about the film, and, while we waited in line at a nearby restaurant, I heard two different people in line on their cell phones, again both young, saying "great movie, you've got to see it."
I'm going back with my 16 y/o daughter, probably to a matinee, as soon as possible. She really wants to see the movie, however, she had other plans last night, and wasn't convinced that going to a movie with her parents would be a better time.

Even though I knew most of the information ahead of time, i was soo pissed off at the end that i did not want to speak. Inwardly, i was hoping that there would be some asshole freepers protesting. The movie isn't playing in our repuke city so, we had to go 45 minutes North of us to New Lenox. It's just South West of Chicago. The theater was almost full. A man who had purchased his ticket was concerned that it said it was showing on a certain screen, but it wasn't on that screen. The employee told him that they changed the movie to the larger theater (they have 14 screens) because they were expecting a lot of people. The crowd cheered, laughed, grunted at the chimp and we had a huge applause at the end. It felt so good to be in a room full of likeminded people. I have hope now. The theater was packed...not one seat, even the first row. Lots of "oohhhs" and "my God"s whispered and applause at the end.

Theater in Delray was out west ....a lot of retirees (the famous butterfly ballot voters) and they sat there quiet and still. That in itself is a vote for the impact of 9/11!

Went and saw it at the 1:30 showing at Quail Springs Mall in Oklahoma City yesterday. Theatre was nearly packed with an OCPD officer providing security. LOTS and LOTS of cheering and clapping throughout. Around halfway through (during the part about the Fresno, California group being infiltrated by LE), some JACKASS wandered in from the lobby and started yelling "BOOO!!!! But you can still bring your beer and wine into the theater which is a plus. They must not have a hard liquor license since I didn't see anything else on the bar menu.

I went with my parents today and there were bodies everywhere, and a huge line down the street in both directions. We couldn't get into a showing in Chicago, which were all sold out so we drove out to the suburb of Oak Park, IL. Fortunately we bought our tickets online because we might not have made it in.

The two showings after ours were sold out; the kids working there are definitely earning their money today. There were no freepers anywhere to be found... a good thing because I absolutely would have attacked them. I knew it was going to be a powerful experience watching all the solemn faces (and tears) of the people coming out of the showing before ours.

207. Phoenix - 4:20 - 2/3 full - - HUGE LINE for 7:15 showing

I had to keep myself from sobbing out loud, although, it didn't always work. Great applause after the "We thought you should send your kids to help out in Iraq" part and thunderous applause at the end. (No standing O. People in Phoenix usually won't do that, anyway. We got excited when Charles Barkley took us to the NBA finals. Other than that, it's pretty quiet around here.)

There was a cop outside the theater door the entire movie. He came inside when the film was over. Probably just to make sure nothing broke out between libs and conservatives. Nobody walked out before the movie was over. Nobody did anything bad. It was very quiet, except for the crying.

I was surprised there were so many people in the theater, even though it was only 2/3 full. This is Phoenix and we don't get excited about much and it is supposedly a Red state. (Don't count on it, Bush-boy.) I was even more surprised to see a huge line cordoned off for the next show 45 minutes later.

The game is off. Fool me once... (although I was never fooled.)

209. Just got home from seeing it in Atlanta

We went to the 4:45 showing at Phipps Plaza in Atlanta. It was showing in two theaters and looked like it was sold out in both. When we left, there was already a very long line for the 7:40 show, which is unusual for that theater, since you buy tickets on a different level of the mall than the actual theater.

The movie got many laughs, heard a lot of sniffles, and at the end a big ovation, with many standing. It was incredible. I wanted to throw things at the screen several times, but I behaved myself. There were uniformed police officers and a few plain clothes officers in the theater. They checked every ticket at the door of the theater, so no freepers entered this one paying for Shrek 2! Incredible night!

Afterward, we came back out to the republican hinterlands and went to our favorite Italian restaurant that has Trivia on Sat. nights. There was this one guy who made very sarcastic remarks about my Kerry t-shirt and my husband's Kerry hat. He said he would beat us at trivia, and he named his team "Bush will win." Well, I am pleased to report that we kicked his team's butt (and all the others) and came away with the grand prize, which more than paid for our meal and beer. Awesome night!

Three showings last night all full house.
I went to the 7:15 show. Not only unable to find four seats together for myself and friends,there was not one single seat available for me. Mgmt said they were supposed to have 17 empty seats but they had to bring in seven folding chairs.
Crowd applauded several times. Incredible event. Two hours on a metal folding chair sucks.

215. 1:25 this afternnon Baster Avenue 8 (Apex) louisville, ky

Large crowd for that showing and the one that let out at 1:00. Young man sat in the seat next to me and before the movie he asked if i knew anything about the size of the attendees. Told him that I didn't know about the local viewings but it had been sold out all over the country. He said the movie locally was giving local residents fits because they were not used to the extra traffic.
Audience laughed in appropriate places, seemed to appreciate the irony of the soundtrack. Was very, very quiet throughout the movie--too busy paying attention to talk or shift. Looked over at one point and noticed that this young man was openly crying, so was I.

Came home and wrote a thanyou email to the theater for making the decision to show the movie. Haven't ever done that before.

216. Reno, NV - 2:15 showing today...

Mom and I went -- the theatre was around 95% full, which was kind of surprising with Reno being a such a RW hotbed. From what I've seen "F9/11" is only playing in Reno and Vegas, so maybe folks are traveling in from surrounding areas.

The audience was predominantly white (like the area) and ranged from college kids to seniors, with most folks being 30-45. The response was VERY enthusiastic -- lots of clapping, cheering, sniffing, gasps and muttering. I kind of felt like I was in some sort of audience participation experience! I could tell that many in the audience weren't aware of the full extend of all that had happened -- there were a lot of people getting their minds blown.

All in all it was a great experience -- there a few friends I want to see this with. Can't wait.

I got there at 10 am to go the 11 am showing.They would not sell me a ticket for the 140 pm showing .I was told they were all sold out in advance.

218. I went to 7:30p showing in Montclair, NJ tonight. All showings..

have sold out according to the cashier and usher. I got there for the 6:30 showing which was sold out. I got tickets for the 7:30p showing and that showing sold out a few minutes after I bought my tickets. The cashier told me to get in line 45 minutes before the showing to assure a good seat.

The crowd was mostly well-to-do middle aged, and senior, white suburbanites. There were a few blacks in the audience. Unfortunately, the theaters in the black neighborhoods in my county are not showing the film.

225. 7:00 p.m. EDT, Friday night, Washington, D.C.

My husband and I saw the movie at the Landmark 7 Cinema on 11th and G Streets, N.W. We stopped at the ESPN Sports Zone for dinner and headed over to the theater about 6:30. All showings except for the 12:15 were sold out (but, judging by the line at the box office, that show was probably sold out, as well).

Every seat at the 7:00 show was filled. The audience ranged in age from young adults to seniors, with every demographic represented: White, black, East Indian, businesspeople, U.S. Government employees, tourists, college students . . . you name it (D.C. is a multicultural town). Some of the scenes that drew the most laughs were the take-off on the opening of the classic T.V. show "Bonanza" (with Junior, Cheney, etc., as "Little Joe", "Hoss", "Ben", et. al), Ashcroft singing "Let The Eagle Soar" (sheesh, who told that man he could SING, LOL? :wtf:), and Michael driving around the front of The Capitol in an ice cream truck reading the USA Patriot Act. When the Iraq and "Lila" segments came on the screen, you could hear a pin drop and Kleenexes being blown into (and angry mutterings at the right-wing woman during Lila's visit to The White House).

During the opening scenes when the principals are being made up to go in front of the cameras, Wolfowitz is shown wetting his comb between his teeth, smiling, and then combing his hair -- and everybody groaned in disgust. Same reaction when his aid attempted to groom Wolfie's wayward cowlicks. :puke:

When the movie ended, unlike the reaction in other movie houses, we were in shock by what we'd just seen and there was very little applause -- it was difficult for us to rise from our seat because we were so overwhelmed. Once outside though, EVERYONE was talking excitedly about every aspect!

Full house- he had to wait 45 minutes in line to get his ticket. And he said traffic leaving was a NIGHTMARE. But he did say it was a great film. And he's not even a mainstream Dem/Lib- he "was a Republican until Bush became President".

Today La Jolla, (yes the well to do side of the track) Three screens, it is a small theater, they are selling out or close to capacity, according to the manager.

Mostly the second one shock and stone silence, and shock is good

235. South Houston - Gulf Pointe AMC 30

7:05pm showing. If not sold out, damn near! Loved the movie! Every minute of it! Some sad scenes and funny scenes! I especially loved the end when they showed Bushie stumbling the "shame on me" phrase! The audience laughed and applauded! If there are any Bush* loving lurkers on this site I recommend, NOT TO SEE THIS DOCUMENTARY! Because your boy Bush* is showing his true self!

236. Burlington, Washington Friday Matinee SOLD OUT

I figured that the afternoon (2:10) show would have plenty of room, but I went early anyway because I was meeting friends. I bought my ticket and asked the seller how things were going--he told me that there were four seats left. I don't think my friends got in--I moved quikly and got one of the last open chairs in the theater.

There were NO disruptions--it was the most respectful audience I can remember in a movie thater--usually there's a few folks chatting about the plot and so on. I responded to the disaster in 2001, working for FEMA. I girded myself for what I would witness in this film, and I was strong--I stayed, in spite of an urge to rush out when the black screen & soundtrack took over. I sat silent, tears streaming down both sides of my face.

I was OK after that...

Until some of the other scenes with the death, the grieving, the emotion of an Iraqi woman screaming into a camera, "Where are You God?" or words to that effect. At those moments, the three young women next to me (who had been all giggles leading into the showing) were not silent--they were sobbing aloud. And I listened, and I could hear more sobbing and weeping throughout the theater, and I began to sob myself.

Thirty hours later, I still weep. I should actually write, "Three years later, I'm still messed up." And I didn't lose a family member--I didn't give my son to the war--I didn't lose anything but part of my mind, and perhaps all of my country.

This film helps me--I can begin to turn my emotions toward positive cahnge--and I will.

237. Stafford, Texas - Tom Delay's District!

Saw it at the Loew's Fountains. It was showing in the largest cinema in the 'plex which could hold maybe 300 people, maybe 200 attending.

Audience was vocal in its outrage at some parts and sympathy in others. In the end entire theatre stood to applaud. When we left the 8 pm showing, there were already lines to get into the 10 pm showing which looked like it would be even better attended.

If this is happening in the armpit of Bush country, the muthafucka is toast.

238. New Orleans, AMC Palace Elmwood, 4:30 Sat, Sold out.

I noticed the previous show (1:30 pm) was sold out too. Lots of laughters except silent during the scences of the war. Biggest laughter went for the famous Bushism on "Fool me". A long cheer at the ending, which I never have experienced in a movie theater!

The only thing that is a little disappoiting is that it is shown in only two theaters in New Orleans. Well, on the other hand I was wondering whether it would be shown here at all a few weeks ago.

I've loved reading through this thread. All regions and so many states represented - and I keep thinking that THIS is the America I grew up in, not the hellish nightmare of the last 3.5 years.

Some of the stories here are so moving that I sent the link to the thread to Michael Moore. It's a good on the ground report of what's happening across the country, and his people might find it interesting. It certainly is encouraging.

242. Palm Beach County Florida

My husband and I saw the show yesterday (Saturday) at the 4:30 P.M. Matinee at the Regal in Royal Palm Beach (a suburb west of West Palm Beach). He had been the first to purchase tickets for the show on Friday morning at about 11:00 A.M. By the time we got to the Sat. afternoon show they had moved it to the biggest screen in the theater.

It was a sold out show. Last time I saw a sold out show like this was the "Titanic" and I do go to the movies frequently.

I think the audience was mostly quiet although everyone laughed at the scenes when Bush was on screen. Spontaneous applause for the show at the end.

Living here in Palm Beach, the scenes about the stolen election were very hard for me to watch. I cried. Even though I had scene the inagaral parade on c-span and saw the CBC in Congress.

pretty damn full, lots of folks lined up for the next showing too. we saw the 8pm show, which was preceded by a torrential rainstorm. didn't stop people from sitting there in damp clothes shaking their heads and muttering "what the fuck?".
this county is usually strongly republican, but the crowd was very mixed. (mostly white-but that's expected in this area).

some moveon people were handing out flyers and bumperstickers ("Nothing Accomplished"). i got a chuckle out of them whispering "take these, before we get caught and they throw us out".

Saturday's 8 p.m. showing was sold out (it was one of two screens). Lots of diversity in the crowd (age, race,walks of life). People laughed and snickered throughout. Lady next to me cried as hard as I did. No one moved after the movie. Everyone wanted to see more...

It was a fantastic movie.

Saw the afternoon show. Theater was semi-full with a lot of people wearing blue shirts! I heard people crying, moaning with disgust, laughing and cheering.

When a movie gets all of this, in a repug area like KS, Bush is toast!
