MSNBC: Tenet was interviewed by Plame investigator "about a month ago"
Edited on Fri Jun-25-04 02:30 PM by troublemaker
When was it Tenet resigned or was asked to resign? Was that "about a month ago?"

I ask because that old Capitol Hill Blue story said that Tenet scheduled a meeting with Bush alone, met him in the WH residence, and that Bush fired Tenet for 'disloyalty', and later said it was God's judgment. If that chronology is accurate--and I am not saying it is or it isn't--it would be interesting to know what the act of 'disloyalty' was and whether Tenet was maybe passing along what he had told the investigator.

Speculate away.

On Edit; I think Tenet resigned 02 June (the day Bush first consulted a private lawyer). That's 23 days... so Tenet probably talked to the investigator shortly before resigning. Also on edit, added these materials:
"Tenet wanted to quit last year but the President got his back up and wouldn't hear of it," says an aide. "That would have been the opportune time to make a change, not in the middle of an election campaign but when the director challenged the President during the meeting Wednesday, the President cut him off by saying 'that's it George. I cannot abide disloyalty. I want your resignation and I want it now."

Tenet was allowed to resign "voluntarily" and Bush informed his shocked staff of the decision Thursday morning. One aide says the President actually described the decision as "God's will."

2. I agree
Tenet probably pointed the finger right at the White House. Good for him if he did.

3. somebody I know intimately
who is an analyst for the Company said that Tenet tried to quit before the Iraq war. Also, Tenet was highly respected and well-liked at said Company.

The Chimp, not so much.

Am I wrong in thinking you're completely screwed if the CIA doesn't like you?

6. Not necessarily screwed, but it's "unhelpful"
Tenet had indeed been trying to find a graceful exit for a long time and I wasn't surprised he would leave, but there was something odd about his resignation; it played out as a jarring surprise to all involved, which makes little sense if everyone knew it was coming. I am not entirely comfortable with the official story or with more conspiratorial theories... it's just an odd incident that doesn't fit somehow.

7. So did it happen like this?
Tenet goes to Bush and says
"You know how I've been wanting to resign for a year? Guess who I talked to today and what I said.":bounce:

8. Heres my take
The Special Prosecutor put Tenet under oath and he told them who it was in the CIA that offered the name of Valerie Plame to the White House, or if not inside the CIA who it was that gave out her name and to whom. In Bush's world this is an act of disloyalty for which he was summarily dismissed. By the way, I believe Bush did this in a fit of rage and without consulting his other advisors. Given all that he knows and will take with him, I don't think those in the know would want Tenet out in public acting like a loose cannon. My guess is that we have not heard the last of Mr. Tenet.

Tenet is one intriguing guy....
