Wait a minute! What was 7 of 9 doing married to a right-wing nutjob?
Edited on Fri Jun-25-04 04:53 PM by Taylor Mason Powell
I'm just asking, as I haven't seen this angle discussed here.

My first thought when the scandal broke was, "oh, how awful that she was subjected to that! What a cad!"

But after reading this lovely gem from Jack Ryan's website: http://www.jackryan2004.com/issues/issueslist.asp?p=330 (all about the need to protect marriage from people like myself who seek to undermine and demean all your marriages...), I have to say Jeri Ryan has dropped a bit in my esteem.

Is Jeri Ryan also a right-winger? Does anybody know? Or is this just a Matalin-Carville-type case of "bedfellows make strange politics?"

1. How do you explain James Carville and Mary Matalin?
Edited on Fri Jun-25-04 04:57 PM by Cyrano
Don't judge her based on her asshole husband.

Or, more correctly, don't judge Carville based on his demented right-wing-bot wife.

3. Well, that's what I'm saying.
I don't judge Carville because he's married to Mary Matalin. I happen to believe that people of very different political beliefs can fall in love... and I'm not "judging" Jeri Ryan, really... but it's just curious to me. Because he seems like such a slimeball.

Mary Matalin may be conservative, but she's never seemed like an asshole to me.

6. Sorry, I edited my reply before you answered.
But I guess we disagree on Mary Matalin. After everything that's come out about torture, Haliburton, etc., she's still defending Bush/Cheney. I can't imagine how Carville can live with her. She's either:

A. Voicing right-wing opinions because it pays well, or

B. She really buys into their ten tons of fascist crap.

Neither explanation makes her look very good.

7. You may be right. I haven't seen her much lately.
She doesn't seem to crop up on the cable shows as often as she used to... I guess when you've got Hanittys and O'Reilly's out there, they make Ms. Matalin seem tame by comparison!

I'd love to ask James Carville about that if I ever got a chance to meet him. He'd probably tell me to fuck off, though! :-)

2. Don't know her politics but
if the divorce papers are any indication, Jeri is probably in ":wtf: was I thinking?" mode. ;-)

4. Especially because she's an actress.
She must work with gay people all the time...
Which makes it seem odd that she would marry an intolerant bigot-type.

8. I was wondering that too--how can somebody that HOT like staid,
Edited on Fri Jun-25-04 05:18 PM by mistertrickster
boring Republicans with strange sexual proclivities?

She should have just said in that Borg voice, "I will not comply" when he asked her out.

14. Jeri is quoted in the Star-Ledger (Newark, NJ)
Edited on Fri Jun-25-04 05:55 PM by Rumpole
as saying that her ex is "a good man and a loving father".
She also opposed the unsealing of the divorce records.

There was no indication of her political proclivities.

Edited to make the quote right.
