Vice President Cheney today acknowledged that he had a bitter exchange on the Senate floor with a senior Democratic senator, in which Cheney uttered a big-time obscenity, but said he had no regrets and that he "felt better after I had done it."

... Later in the interview, Cheney added, laughing, that "a lot of my colleagues felt that what I had said badly needed to be said, that it was long overdue."

More importantly, he's behaving like someone who does not quite understand what is happening but has some vague sense that his power to misbehave in major ways is no longer unchecked. When you are clearly in the right, and you are powerful, you behave quite differently toward your opponents.

What set off Cheney was Leahy's spirited efforts to challenge Halliburton's unbid contracts. This same theme was sounded for months on the campaign trail by Edwards. I am SALIVATING at the thought of Kerry's picking JRE, then seeing a debate where Cheney attempts to bully Edwards, who survived more than 20 years of this type of attempted bullying from teams of much better resourced attorneys paid to make their opponents look bad, and came out the victor. JRE would slice and dice Cheney with a smile and make him look more ridiculous than some hapless half-wit being turned upside down by Judge Judy.

Cheney and friends may be laughing now, but the American public will have the last laugh--in Nov.
