Arnold is going DOWN
Poll Places Bustamante In Lead to Succeed Davis
Schwarzenegger Tops the Other Calif. Hopefuls

WASHINGTON POST

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 15 -- Before the first television ads have aired, the race to succeed California Gov. Gray Davis (D) if he is recalled came down to just two men, Republican action star Arnold Schwarzenegger and Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz M. Bustamante, according to a nonpartisan statewide poll to be released Saturday.

The California Field Poll found 25 percent of registered voters opted for Bustamante followed by 22 percent for Schwarzenegger.

And we , unlike Arnold, who has been "stealth campaigning since January 02, have only begun to fight!

BUT WE STILL HAVE TO DEFEAT THE RECALL, OR FACE THE CONSEQUENCES OF HUGE INTEREST PAYMENTS ON OUR STATE BONDS.

The man is absolutely pathetic. While you may think little of the American people, I happen to believe they are much more intelligent than to elect someone like Arnold - especially Californians.

8. uh, ok
I "think little of the american people"? That's a pretty stupid thing to say. I actually think the people are great, barring maybe a few idiots in Georgia.

Regardless of the superior intellect of the average Californian, I think they'll elect Arnold anyway. California is all about show and glamor and Hollywood, and I'll be pretty surprised if he doesn't win.

10. Oh, I see....
So it's the glitz and glamour that attracts the best and brightest to Silicon Valley, is it?

There's one thing you leave out of the equation - California is a great deal more than Hollywood. But it takes LOGIC to understand that - something you seem to be sorely lacking in.

14. such belligerence
Good lord, it was just an opinion... I think the Californians like the attention and the buzz and the hollywood glamor, and I think Arnold will get elected as a result of both that and the overwhelming free publicity and non-critical media coverage he's been receiving.

You should really try to relax, you'll feel better. Take deep breaths. Maybe go outside and dig a hole and fill it with water, or try some feng shui. Take some anger management classes or something. Peace. :hippie:

Having quite a laugh at your expense.

It's really quite funny that you think TRUTH=belligerence. Good attempt to avoid the issue and the fact that you are making a complete fool of yourself.

I'm having fun, are you?

I'm glad you're having fun, lol. I'm actually avoiding going to work on a weekend, so I suppose that counts as fun too.

I actually don't want Arnold to win, I'm hoping for the porn star. Anyway it should be amusing to see how it all plays out. At least we can all probably agree that it won't be Gary Coleman or Arianna. :D

19. projection
that's what they call it when you imagine other people are feeling the way you are. If you are imagining that people are angry and uptight, you might want to check your own jaw clench.
Arnold is going down and the people in california are not anymore shallow than any of the rest of the country. Only republicans vote for the kind of idiot reasons you are suggesting.

32. You sound so convinced in AHnold's invincibility, I almost believe
you want him to win. If so, why not just admit it. After all, a few prominent DINO's have already backed him, so he does have a shred of legitimacy among Dems.

But I believe Californian's are far too practical and survival oriented to let a ditto head aging womanizer with a pathetic voting record and not a clue about California's issues, completely shred what remains of their state's economy and send its pieces spiriling down the toilet. And I didn't even need a tin foil hat to come up with that one :D.

11. Show and Glamour?
California is all about show and glamour? I think perhaps you may have been watching the "E" channel my friend. We are all about the MONEY that "show and glamour" generates; The entertainment industry is just another of many here. While YOU may go ga ga over a front of the camera type, most of us here live among them and to us they just go off to work the same as us.

If we were as superficial as you, we wouldn't be theFIFTH LARGEST ECONOMY IN THE WORLD

It is getting their hands on THIS that is behind the recall, despite what you see on your television

what's that smell? anyone?

28. You aren't very familiar with California
Northern Californians HATE southern California. If they were to support Arnold, it would be because they are Republicans, not because of the show an glamour. And more likely they will vote for a different Republican because of Arnold's liberal views. The only way that Arnold has a chance is if all of the other Republicans drop out.

Seems like it.

Landslide my ass. We haven't even STARTED to get the truth out there.
I like Arnolds financial advisor mentioning that the middle class must pay more in property taxes. THAT'S just for starters what they have in mind.

Landslide my ASS!

Wow, you people are so confrontational.

I didn't say I want him to win or that he's even remotely the best candidate, so why don't you come on down off that high horse of yours?

Arnold's one of the big hollywood people, and they like that in California. He's got money and long-standing political connections. He's got virtually total tacit endorsement by the media and nearly all the free airtime and publicity he wants. If he doesn't win, I'll be surprised.

And if you "haven't even STARTED to get the truth out there", what the heck are you waiting for? The election's less than 2 months away.

And then call others confrontational!!!!! Logic, dear Tinfoil, logic....you're missing some.

on edit:
On the other hand, you have an abundance of hypocrisy!

13. Oh please, how naive you are.
We, especially we who have lived in Southern California, are used to rubbing elbows with celebrites. We hear all the scuttlebutt that doesn't make it into the tabloids. We really do see them as ordinary people. And like ordinary people, the warts stand out for all to see away from the stage or movie screen. So I don't think he has anyone in Southern California blinded with his celebrity.

It's true that his name gets him far more media recognition than an ordinary Joe Blow. It works for Arianna too. This is why the Repubs were so upset over the celebrities who came out against the Iraq war and George Bush's administration. It was because they knew that they could get the airtime that Joe Sixpack couldn't.

16. I'll tell you what we're waiting for
This is a longer race than you might think; we are in the midst of kicking off the organized campaign against the obvious coup attempt. Right now. At this moment.

In this sound bite media driven echo chamber news cycle, we plan to rachet it up so that no one will even remember by October why they thought the recall was a good idea.

THAT is what we're waiting for.

It's called strategy.

It's the big cable networks that are shilling for Arnold and no one else. But since only Californians will vote, it really doesn't matter.

I thought it was Arnold 40 something, Bustamonte 20 something??? And wsa very depressed. This sounds much more encouraging.

The funniest thing I saw yet was on The Daily Show - a clip of Arnold with schoolkids, saying violence was bad, and Jon Stewart said, and this from the Terminator? Conan the Barbarian? ??? :D

17. Cruz win or lose, we still need to continue...
...to push for recall elections in Repub Gov states.

We can't let the Republicans go around lobbing state level electoral nukes without letting them know that it puts them at risk on the same tactics.

The flaming neocons won't care - they believe in complete scorched earth tactis from the work go. But hopefully the moderate Republicans will realize the risk of playing recall tit-for-tat and reign the jackasses in.

22. I attended an Orange County
Democratic committee meeting last night. And steroid boy is going down. I was very encouraged by what I heard last night. Once people understand the rethugs are forcing a $70 million (projected cost) unscheduled election (they could have waited 'n staged the recall for March primaries 'n the cost would B less - you have 2 ask yourself 'why now?'.) It IS imperative Democrats VOTE. If there is no Dem GOTV effort, we are toast. Better Blieve this is a battle for the country! Rove wants CA electoral votes & this is how he is trying 2 get them.

25. A serious question:
:hi: Cap'n!

My local paper this morning said that one of the (2?) civil rights cases may postpone the election. I've been confused over what seems like conflicting agendas:

Agenda 1: The blackboxvoting situation, with electronic voting opening the door to fraud and no accountability; so, no electronic voting, or no electronic voting without a paper trail.

Agenda 2: The ACLU (?) suit trying to delay the recall until electronic voting machines are installed and in place.

I'm working from memory here; I don't have the articles in front of me. But the electronic voting issue here seems contradictory. What's your take?

31. The ACLU suit does not involve electronic voting
to my knowlege which is admittedly limited here; the ACLU suit we discussed this afternoon is based on the inability of Monterrey County to get ballots out in a timely manner to overseas/absentee voters due to its size among other things..

But that was my overworked and harried I'm on three phone calls at once impression.....

anybody have the skinny on this?

I'm enthusiastic about this message. We can fight the right and we can win. Arnie's an airhead. We deserve better. We need to tar and feather him and send him to Utah on a train... It's funny that the "family values" GOP is running such a creature.

If you think Arnold does not have a chance then you must not live in Minnesota.

We got stuck with Jesse Ventura, although he offered no real ideas and is an airhead.

Elections in this day and age are all about name recognition and how you look on TV.

The only 2 things that Arnold has.

Unfortunately, I think he will win.
