What are the numbers? Is F9/11 number one film this weekend?
Edited on Sat Jun-26-04 09:29 AM by Stephanie

I only found this, and it's a day old and only this much is available without subscription. Where do I find the info on last night's ticket sales?

'Fahrenheit' overheats Friday B.O.
Boffo sales put doc in running for No. 1 spot

Buzz works. After weeks of debate and media coverage, "Fahrenheit 9/11" opened today far better than expected.

1. Holy crap, looks like he beat out White Chicks if I am reading this right
Edited on Sat Jun-26-04 09:41 AM by demgrrrll
it looks like over 22 million. On edit, this is Lee's Movie final predicition not the final numbers. Maybe someone who follows these things more closely than I do knows how he comes up with his figures and how accurate he is. Apparently his watchers have told him that the buzz is similar to The Matrix.

2. It is going to be a smash hit.
Even in conservative towns like where I live the shows are selling out.

5. It's hardly even possible for F911 to be #1 this weekend.
First of all, it's only showing in 868 theaters. That's a HUGE opening for a low-budget documentary, but compare that to the other movies opening this weekend:

Movies Opening this Week/Weekend

Fahrenheit 9/11: 868 theaters
Two Brothers: 2,175 theaters
The Notebook: 2,303 theaters
White Chicks: 2,726 theaters

Other Movies in Wide Release

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban: 3,855 theaters
Shrek 2: 4,234 theaters
Dodgeball: 3,020 theaters

Source: Box Office Mojo

Up against that kind of competition, we'd be lucky if F911 finished third or fourth for the week.

Let's please not get discouraged by that. Let's also be prepared for this inevitability: Drudge, Fox and the rest of the types who are terrified of this movie will try to convince Americans it's not doing well, and nobody's seeing it, when "White Chicks" and "Dodgeball" kicks its ass over the weekend.

When all is said and done, F911 is going to make a lot of money, and it's going to be seen by a lot of people, regardless of how well "White Chicks." performs this weekend!! :D

6. the important numbers will be the per screen averages-

7. Oh, absolutely, but the media isn't likely to report that.
You know how it is...

Bubbly Blonde Generic News Lady: "And the #1 film at the box office this weekend? DODGEBALL!! Despite all the buzz about "Fahrenheit 9/11," it only finished a disappointing 4th."

Bubbly Brunette Generic News Guy: "I guess all that buzz and controversy didn't really help Michael Moore's latest Bush-bashing movie, did it, Cheesa?"

Bubbly Blonde Generic News Lady: "I'm afraid not, Dorker! By the way, wasn't Dodgeball hilarious?? (laughs) Now, let's check in with Skippy for your work week weather!"

8. Okay! How will that be reported?
Will they report that F9/11 SOLD OUT on 868 screens this weekend? Is that a typical number to report? Gross sales PLUS per screen averages?

14. Variety predicts $6912 (lowball estimate)
From the story linked in the first post:

Playing at 868 theaters, the pic would have an amazing one-day theater
average of $6,912 at the low end of that range.

11. Box Office Mojo is the best source for this
They'll have friday numbers sometime this afternoon.

On the other hand -- their forum is freeperland (much like AICN's Talkback section) a bunch of teens and twentysomethings who are so right wing they can only clap with one hand. Poorly educated, yobbos--many of them.

It would be lovely place to invade with DUers, but it's not worth the effort.

Their grading system is skewed as well-- folks had voted the movie as an F before seeing it--just to lower the scores-- you had the opposite true as well-- hence the voting system for movies sucks.

Still-- their numbers are usually the most reliable

12. Yes, their grading system has definitely been freeped.
Still, I love the site. I'm kind of geeky when it comes to movie stats, for some reason!

13. More from the Variety story "could sell between $6 million and $8 million"
An estimate of just how well it could do is difficult to make, but as of 3 p.m. on the West Coast, it looks as if Michael Moore's doc could sell between $6 million and $8 million worth of tickets on its first day.

Playing at 868 theaters, the pic would have an amazing one-day theater
average of $6,912 at the low end of that range.

It is still too soon to tell where "Fahrenheit" will end up for the
weekend, though the strong perf out of the gates makes the pic a contender for the No. 1 spot at the box office.

<snip>

Sehring added, "It would be great if it held for the weekend. It could
break the documentary box office record in just one weekend."

That record is, for the moment, is $21.6 million cume for Moore's 2002
doc, "Bowling for Columbine." But, that pic played for 25 weeks before
it crossed $20 million.Sehring added, "It would be great if it held for the weekend.

17. F9/11 Should Get First Place for Fri-Sun
"White Chicks" opened on Wednesday, making it difficult for F911 to overtake the top spot.
