http://www.moveon.org/pac/news/4endorsed.htmlIn Arizona,
Paul Babbitt is running a competitive, progressive campaign against first-term Republican incumbent Rep. Rick Renzi (AZ-01). Evelyn, a MoveOn member in Flagstaff, AZ, says about Babbitt: "I want someone with strong ties to rural Northern Arizona who will represent the views and values of the local people. I am tired of Washington policy makers protecting big business, hurting the environment and forgetting the little folks. Paul Babbitt's voice and votes will be for hardworking Americans everywhere."
In Pennsylvania, U.S. Representative
Joe Hoeffel is challenging Arlen Specter in one of the most important Senate races in the country. To squeak out a primary victory, Republican Specter moved far to the right, and hundreds of MoveOn members from Pennsylvania believe Congressman Hoeffel, a progressive champion, has what it takes to win this race.
MoveOn member Ian, from Pittsburgh, writes: "I haven't met a better person running for office in a long time. He has convictions to which he is true and he doesn't waffle in the face of a challenge. His record is a strong one but the role he is playing is one of the most important in the country; he is looking to unseat a legendary Republican Senator and move that chamber one seat closer to Democratic Majority. That is arguably the only thing more important than reclaiming the White House."
Also in Pennsylvania, MoveOn members are excited about
Lois Murphy, an attorney and long-time activist who has spent much of her career fighting for a woman's right to choose. Murphy has worked as the past president of NARAL-Pennsylvania, a member of the Pennsylvania Commission for Women, and as a trustee of the Women's Law Project. Art, of Bryn Mawr, PA, says: "She is the real thing: thoughtful, human, warm, committed to public service. I want to take back Congress from the arch-conservatives and her positions are just what we need in Congress." Lois stands a strong chance of ousting her opponent in Pennsylvania's 6th District, a first-term Republican who won in 2002 with only 51% of the vote.
Finally, in Minnesota's 6th Congressional district,
Patty Wetterling has recently emerged as one of the most thoughtful and courageous Congressional candidates of 2004. Since the 1989 abduction of her son Jacob, Patty has been a tireless advocate for missing and exploited children and wants to take her platform of child advocacy to Congress.
Warren, a MoveOn member from St. Cloud, MN, writes: "Patty Wetterling is a person of great integrity and compassion. Because of her work with missing and exploited children, she has already been instrumental in passing significant national legislation. She is liberal on all the issues that truly matter: ending the war and supporting those who have had to fight it, opposition to the marriage amendment, advocate for public education, strong support for progressive environmental and wilderness legislation, and advocate for working people and a living wage. Patty is smart, tough, but human."
These four candidates are running extremely important races. Their success in November will help us win back the U.S. Senate and take back seats from some of the most conservative members of Congress. Our support before their crucial June 30th filing deadline will make a real difference for these hardworking candidates and their summer campaigns.
Whether you can give $1, $10, $50, or more to each of them, please consider pitching in today. To find out more about the races and read many more member comments about each of the MoveOn Members Endorse candidates, just go to:
