What are the chances that, after we "hand over" sovereignty to
Iraq, that we will be asked to leave? Could this be the ultimate sucker play? I can envision a world wide news report where Allawi gets before the cameras and insists the US and other forces leave.

What are your thoughts? Am I dreaming here?

1. Something will happen to them if they do
and I'm sure they've been well-informed of this.

BushCo wouldn't risk it.

An occupied nation isn't soveriegn anymore.

6. Hence the assasination threats
Wasn't there a statement by some terrorist leader that he was going to target the Iraqi leaders for assasination. Was that cover for any action that may need to be taken against anyone who doesn't go along with the US plans after the transfer of sovereignty?

3. The 'hand-over' is nothing but a symbolic gesture.........
American interests and military will still be the ones who'll be calling the shots....they're just putting an Iraqi face on things.

4. I agree that the hand over is supposed to be merely
symbolic. but, WHAT IF, the so called Iraqi government asked us to leave?
I guess that would make them "evil doers" who "hate freedom".

I would love to see that scenario play out.

5. Afraid that you're dreaming.
Nixon tried the same ploy in Vietnam. We'll be leaving when the Iraqis throw us out. And, it won't be by means of some phony request by the puppet government.

7. I have thought since hearing of the hand-over that it was a way for * to
save face and not slink away losing to a bunch of street fighters (who, by rights, should have dislocated shoulders from shaking their raised fists constantly.) He has promised, if asked, to leave. He said that when announcing the hand over, almost as an after-thought.

A clever out, until people figure out that is exactly what it is. How supposedly smart people can still not see through him is beyond me.
