F911 released on the internet.
Edited on Sun Jun-27-04 12:29 AM by DoNotRefill
http://www.lionsgatefilms.com

The website's slammed. I was on the website a minute ago, and there was a link to download the film. Looks like Moore may have decided to get around the "R" rating anyhow. It'll probably cost him some bucks, but it'll get the film out to EVERYBODY.

Considering Moore's approval for people to download the movie (I saw him say so during one of the interviews) this will be HUGE!!!!!

3. Released for download...
...they've recouped the costs of production, and now they are just getting it out there...perhaps. I know it's hitting the P2P networks, and the sample I saw made it obvious it was a "professional" release.

7. That can't be true
Are you sure it's not just the trailer? Highly unlikely they would have a downloadable release of the number one hit movie on its opening weekend. The site is not loading for me so I don't know.

8. If this is true...
...those with high speed connections should download it and burn as many copies as they can.

Afterwards, just give it to anyone you think may be interested. Great organizing tool!

9. is this, in the long run, a good thing?
consider this, if the movie is now available online theathers might beging scrapping plans to screen it. and considering the problems with the site crashing from so many hits, coupled with the fact that much of america doesn't have access to highspeed connections to make downloading even feasible, could this actually work to limit the number of people who might see the movie?

just a thought.....

found the lions gate film site, clicked the link, and it came up. the site was stripped down, and there was no Hacker message like I'd expect if it got hacked. Besides, why would they have the film available for a hacker to get ahold of off the website?

16. Trajan....
I saw Moore give an interview where they talked about downloading the movie, and he said that he didn't object, that getting the message out was more important to him than the money. This makes it sound like he's putting his money where his mouth is. Given his statement about wanting to bring down Bush at any cost, it all seems to fit together nicely....

124. I'm an artist, too, and I don't object
I've released CDs and have had songs published. I see nothing wrong with downloading this film off the internet. It sounds like Moore has already made back his costs, and isn't that interested in making an obscene profit off of it, so why not?

However, as far as the experience, you should really go see it in a cinema. Seeing it on a big screen, in the company of 100+ other like-minded citizens, is well worth it. It's not very often you see a standing ovation for a MOVIE, after all....:)

21. Kudos to Moore
There's been a couple of things bugging me about f.911.

1) Moores penchant for creative editing
2) Profiting off the 9/11 dead.

But wow. If this is true, I am overly impressed and I take back my reservations.

65. Profitting off the dead is what Cheney, CNN, NBC, ABC have been doing.
Moore is trying to end that, and they only way you can get a lot of attention in the US is if you make money for somebody, and Moore's making money for a couple medium-large entertainment companies.

It's just got to be. Even assuming Lion Gate Films and Moore would release it to download this soon, there is NO way they do it with a simple link on a plain white page. I mean, come on. FWIW I would bet that the download link leads nowhere at all. It sure won't load anything for me.

I've got both the first and second CD DLing, and the first CD starts off with the standard lion's gate logo thing. This does look like the real thing.

BTW, the 2nd CD starts off talking about the building escape suit thingie. Split screen, guy on the left in NY, wearing suit and tie, guy on the right in three rivers, wearing a brown v-neck sweater, oxford, and tie.

SOme other DUers have played the partial downloads (mpg can be played partially dloaded) and have seen what appears to be the start (CD1) and mid way (CD2) of the movie, in VCD quality.

perhaps just a bootleg hack, but i'm still not interested. I have yet to see the film and would rather not risk ruining it for me by watching some camcorder to mpeg that who knows, might be hacked in the video itself. you know, after a half hour or so it shows some f'd up snuff film edited in or something.

(i told you i was paranoid)

wrong with being paranoid as far as i'm concerned. that's why i trust very little on the internet and nothing if it is in the least bit suspicious. as this is to me.

i will wait until i see it in the theatre and then perhaps download a bootleg at some point just because i can be selfish like that.

i'll try to talk myself into waiting for the DVD to obtain a personal copy of the film. i hope i succeed in doing so.

Edited on Sun Jun-27-04 01:40 AM by NightOwwl
1) Where is the Lions Gate main page? No professional company would take down their home page. They would link to another page for the download.

2) Lions Gate Awards page points to the download also. This leads me to believe the entire site has been hacked.

3) MM wants to release the DVD in September. Why have it available online now?

4) Too convenient. If this really is the movie, it was obtained illegally. Freepers want you to download so it won't make money at the box office.

There is something fishy about all this.

81. by releasing it now....
Moore will reap an absolute WHIRLWIND of free publicity, and get it out to literally tens of millions of people virtually overnight.

Remember the Paris Hilton sextape? I've heard that over 100 MILLION people saw at least part of it.

If Moore did this, he's a fucking GENIUS. It'll be front page news, WORLD WIDE. There's NOTHING Moore could do to cause this film to have a bigger impact. The folks who wouldn't pay to see it still get exposed to it. The folks who WILL pay to see it can still go to the theaters. And this way, Moore can control it, instead of having crappy videorecorder copies floating around out there.

There are a couple of possibilities here. Either Moore made this film for commercial gain, or he REALLY hates Bush and will do ANYTHING to bring him down. From what I've seen of Moore, he hates Bush enough to do this. And it WILL fuck Bush over, far more than just having it in the theaters will. This is HUGE.

to do something like this, of course they would. Throw a crappy bootleg copy up and hack the site so everyone can download free. That way they can say the movie had a low turnout at the box office and so less new theaters will want to pick it up.

I was just at the site and it looks like it always did so I guess if it was a hack it's been fixed.

FReepers are such useless, dishonest, hypocritical scum. Sorry to be so blunt. I saw F9/11 last night and I guess I'm feeling some leftover disgust.

93. I don't know....
the quality of what I'm getting is comparable to video clips I've pulled off the Internet from legitimate news sites, etc. I also got some downloads from the Shrek II website (screensavers, etc) and it's comparable to those, too, as far as clarity, etc.

I am not sure if it's a matter of the format or if it's low quality.

Think about it. By releasing it in this format, with relative poor quality, Moore would preserve future DVD sales, and people going to the movies to see it in highest quality.

If this WAS a bootleg, I'd imagine that the site would have already been yanked down by Lions Gate. After all, it's drawing HUGE amounts of bandwidth, and it doesn't take a computer genius to yank the server power supply.

I don't know what's going on, but this could legitimately be the real thing. Time will tell.

110. Not only a reward but
will help finance the next Mikey blockbuster. BTW I've heard some high prices for movies. My Dad and I saw F-9/11 for a total of 10 bucks yesterday. It was an early matinee but the screening room was about 80 percent full. I may see it again at the theater and will certainly by the DVD. I need to replace my copy of Bowling for Columbine as I gave it away.

Someone up above said that the 8 million in sales paid back the cost but it's going to take more then that. Production cost plus distro is 16+ million and the ticket says don't show how much is actually going back to Lion's Gate and how much is being thrown off as profit to the venues. My guess is that a gross of 32 million will break even.
Multiple viewing is definately a good thing to do if you can afford it.

downloading bootlegs OR commercial dvd rips.

Most of the bootlegs I've seen have visible shakes, crowd noises, Japanese subtitles, et cetera. And if you look at the descriptions of what I saw, you'll see that it was of stuff that had been broadcast on the news, copied, and put on film. (the interview with the building parachute guy). You'll also need to reread my post, which did NOT say the quality was great, it said the quality was "decent". There's a substantial difference between "decent" and "great".

Frankly, I don't have to defend myself to you. IF I did have to defend myself, it would be to the police types, who would be able to access records which, based upon things like IP addresses, would make it obvious that I was NOT the person who informed me about this. Additionally, I'm sure that LE is looking at the penetration at Lion's Gate, which could NOT lead back to me, since I didn't have anything to do with it.

I'll ask you this once. Are you accusing me of having ANYTHING to do with the hacking of that website? Please answer carefully.

122. Not so much accusing as I'm saying that logic would dictate that you'd
be the first suspect -- not so much as the hacker, but in being sort of complicit with the plot to make the movie availiable to people who would otherwise go to the movie, thereby undermining its profitability. I just think that's stating the obvious.

If you look at what's going on here, this almost was definitely done by people who are fans. More likely it was done to hurt Moore. Normally people would want to keep file sharing secret so they can get more stuff for free. But this was publicized, and it was publicized at DU. So you have to follow the path backwards and it runs through you.

Of course, maybe this was done by fans, and there's nothing nefarious at all and you're totally innocent.

Who knows.

you'll notice that I'm saying what a great guy/genius Moore is for releasing it, over and over and over again.

Given Moore's televised comments about the downloading of this movie (that he didn't object to it) and his desire to remove Bush at any cost, my interpretation of the events seems to have been the most logical at the time.

Are you accusing me to being an accessory to a criminal act?

You had convinced me that Lions Gate put that up there for free.

Do you think it was a criminal act now?

I'm just talking about hypotheticals. I don't know you. The internet is totally anonymous. You don't really have that much of an indentiy to me from which to draw conclusions. All I'm saying is if this were a mystery novel, and if a whole lot of conditions were in place, you'd be the character who might turn out in the third act to have been on the inside, rather than the outside.

But don't confuse that with accusing you of anything. I'm not sure we know enough about what happened. And if we read your posts, nothing criminal happened at all. Lions Gate made this film available to the public because they recouped their costs and now want it to get as broadly released as possible.

I'm willing to believe that that is a likely as anythign else that I could come up with in my amature mystery-novelist's imagination.
