Is if bush does "win" the election. I mean if he is screwing us THIS badly now and still trying to "win" in nov. just think how bad he will be if he doesnt have to go for reelection. I think I will break out in sobs if he does "win". We are doomed then!

Musings about a second Bush term typically assume another four years of the same right-wing policies we've had to date. But it'd likely be far worse. So far, the Bush administration has had to govern with the expectation of facing American voters again in 2004. But suppose George W. Bush wins a second term. The constraint of a re-election contest will be gone. Knowing that voters can no longer turn them out, and that this will be their last shot at remaking America, the radical conservatives will be unleashed.

A friend who specializes in foreign policy and hobnobs with subcabinet officials in the Defense and State departments told me that the only thing that's stopped the Bushies from storming into Iran and North Korea is the upcoming election. If Bush is re-elected, " Cheney and Rumsfeld are out of the box," he said. "They'll take Bush's re-election as a mandate to wage the 'war on terror' everywhere and anywhere."

The second term's defense team will be even harder line than the current one. Colin Powell will go. Condoleezza Rice will take over at the State Department. Rumsfeld will consolidate power as the president's national-security adviser. Paul Wolfowitz will run the Defense Department.

Which really sucks for me, since I'm only a few hours away, should I choose that option. But they are at risk of a fascist neocon government themselves. Let's hope the Canadian people know better :scared:

scary to think that this bunch of jacklegs still have to keep the gloves on. If they lose, there's little chance of any of these bozos are likely to hold major office again. But if they win...here's what I suspect will unfold:

- a reinstitution of the draft in 2005, supposedly to shore up "troop strength" for the continuing military presence in Iraq (which will effectively be a covert buildup) leading to

- limited, decapitory strikes against Syria and Iran with the possibility of full-blown invasion and occupation; I doubt that North Korea would be a prime target, given their neighbors, and the fact that North Korea basically is valueless otherwise (we already have working relationships with Japan and South Korea, the country is effectively a third-world nation, and China is a pretty effective check against actual invasion). However, an assassination attempt against Kim Jong Elvis is not out of the question

- the "recovery" (of which I'm skeptical at best) of the American economy coming to a screeching halt

- another round of "tax cuts" in 2006 that will benefit large corporations and top-income individuals while screwing the bottom 70% of the country, coupled with even more draconian social and educational program cuts

- environmental deregulation that would likely gut most of the protections in place, with mining and drilling interests likely receiving franchises even in some national parks;

- "stealth" legislation buried in a larger piece, like Patriot II but possibly something less controversial, that would effectively negate the First Amendment

- further electronic-voting legsialtion pushed at the state and national levels, which would benefit Bush crony corporations while loosening or eliminating verifiability provisions.

If our economy seems to be recovering, I believe it's only because we have a ray of hope that this nightmare could end in six months instead of four years or more.

Not a pretty picture. Not at all.
