1. I wholeheartedly agree
I wish the Left, Liberals, "intellectuals," etc. would get the f*&^ over Friedman.

IT would make a great study to parse out his columns-- I always find 1-4 things that smack of:

Colonialism
Imperialism
Orientalism
Fetishism
Complete and utter megolomania on his part.

It's sick the way folks lap up his words and repeat them (in the media and elsewhere) And like many columnists he's long since gone past the phase of believing his own press.

His egotism has been showing for quite a while now...

He's quite like Judith Miller (who still has her sick Sacred Terror, or whatever the F(*& they call it mentioned)-- this book is the worst example of journalists trying to get taken seriously.

4. Friedman was in the wrong place
while he was touring the closed airport, making the officials roll their eyes at his stupid questions, the real story in Iraq was in the Shiite slums in Baghdad. What a waste of plane fare for him to even go to Iraq.

I wonder if any of these Arabs he gets his quotes from are real. That quote about the wet dream sounds a little too Friedmanesque...

5. Once again, Tom. Is this a "war of choice" or a "war of necessity"
I get confused. Maybe you could explain it to us again.

Tom seems to think that any thought, no matter how obvious or mundane, is so profound, like someone who only likes the smell of his own farts.

I've got to read 'Lexus & The Olive Tree' for a third time this semester and I'm not looking forward to it. 'Electronic herds,' 'golden straitjackets,'...ack...:puke:

7. The best way to describe Tom Friedman , Judith Miller and
their ilk is to call them by their proper name-- Israeli Propagandists. When this disclaimer is put on each one of their columns, all of us will know whereof they speak and reach our own conclusions. It wouldn't be a bad idea to include people like Wolfowitz, Perle, Kristol, Adelman and Lieberman in this list.

8. I "sort of" know him and "colonialism" is right on the money!
He speaks constantly with a close colleague of mine who is a scholar in ME studies (and who constantly disagrees with TF's attitude). Friedman drives him nuts because he *is* (and I quote) "a character right out of the last days of the British Raj" or "someone who has seen Lawrence of Arabia one too many times"

Friedman very much would like the US to recreate the old British Empire where the sun never set and the people who were "meant" to lead did all the leading and the little brown people understood it was all for their own good.

Nice to see someone else say this, I've been hearing about this guy for five years! My friend is convinced that he can make TF "understand" where he is "mistaken"---its a mystery to me why he is considered to be so "wise" on the Middle East. But, then again, you never go broke advocating for those in power do you?

9. Maybe group therapy is in order
Some sort of self-help group from these idiots.

Am also glad to hear that I'm not the only one who has problems with the likes of him, Judith Miller and the their ilk.

Couldn't come up with a nifty name, though.

Seriously though-- I've got my little list in case I'm unfortunate enough to hear folks like Friedman, Miller, Hitchens talk before their adoring crowds.

(I was beset w/ Hitchens last year--the hosting group thought he was just ducky-- me, and my colleagues needed buckets..)

12. A mystery that TF is considered to be so "wise?"
It's not a mystery. Friedman serves powerful interests -- the present-day American counterparts of those beneficent Brits of yesteryear, who were meant to rule the little brown people for their own good. The more Tom glorifies the noble intentions of the US powerful (note that he uses quotation marks around the word "occupation" in this article), the more grateful the powerful naturally feel towards Tom, for his PR efforts on their behalf. That's why he's considered to be so "wise."

11. A crazy ass British Neo Imperialist named Paul Johnson
is another Godfather of the Jewish intellectual set and has indeed advocated reimposition of a colonialist structure over the entire
Arab/Muslim world for the next 100 years ( All benevolent, of course),so that the benighted arabs and muslims will be able to see the enlightened ways of the Christian/Jewish world or even better
convert to Christianity. This view of Johnson was heartily endorsed
by Norman Podhoretz who can rightly be called the forerunner of the American Jewish intellectual cabal, of which Friedman is a prominent member.

You would think Friedman would at least have the honesty to acknowledge his true origins-- sort of a truth in lying
proposition.

13. This man lives in a dream world. Guess what putz, there are millions
of Iraqis who wish nothing but harm to us. We have killed at least 100,000 of them and probably wounded 3 times that many in our 2 "wars". If ONLY 10% of these people want to fuck us up, that's 2.5 MILLION haters in 1 country! When will the Jews and their supporters realize that colonializing or isolating or destroying a BILLION fucking people is not possible? Too many people let religious fantasy interfere with common sense and reality, IMO. BTW, the only "dancing" in the streets I see is over bombed out Hummers.:wtf:

14. Tom Friedman is a racist!
Somehow people fail to detect racism when it manifest itself in members of ethnic or and/or religious minority groups. When Jesse Jackson used racist language, or when Al Sharpton engaged in blatant racism, some people found their behavior excusable by virtue of their race.

There is no excuse for racism, ever!

Tom Friedman is one of those racists whose views are as abhorrent as those of David Duke. Unlike Duke, who easily fits the stereotype of a white supremacist, Tom Friedman is shielded of racism charges by reason of his being a NY Times columnist and a member of the Northern Eastern elites. Friedman's racism is merely a twisted ultra-Zionist variant of David Duke's white supremacy!

15. He is a pretentious bore...
A year ago I bought his book on the middle east because his PR was so good it fooled me. I wanted to find out what was really going on there so I thought he would be a place to start.
Thank god I kept researching and finally threw Friedman's tome in the trash and bought more Chomsky instead.
Friedman is a shill for * and other selfish imperialists.

Friedman is :puke:

16. Friedman is hoist by his own petard.
He supported this diabolical crusade without thinking it through--just as the neocons did.

In so doing, Friedman has cut himself off from enlightened thinkers around the world. He has ruined his reputation.

He is now a desperate man trying with all his might to put the pieces back together again. Ain't gonna happen.

Sorry, Tom. THe only way back to respectability is on your knees.
