BBV: WFLD 32 (Fox Chicago) ran a story
The BBV story is bubbling upwards. Channel 32 News in Chicago just ran a story on touch-screen voting machines in connection with the recall election in California. They mentioned the Johns Hopkins study and spoke with someone from the L.A. County Registrar (Nancy LaJeunesse, I think) who pooh-poohed concerns about touch-screen voting ("There are many layers of people involved in changing the code" and "How can we tabulate 2.7 million paper slips?"). They reused some footage from a Sunday talking-heads show with a critic pointing out the main concern is not hackers, but insiders changing the code.

1. Just a thought
As a mind experiment only!!

knowing what we do about those Diebold machines, how would you hatch a plot to "steal" an election?

Put on your Sherlock Holmes hat and light up the pipe....
use you imagination....what would it take to pull off something like that in a local precinct? A county?

We've got some extremely bright people here. Let's see some creativity!

3. How about reality redux:
If there's any way possible for the vote to be compromised, even using an ad absurdum argument, WHY ON EARTH would one not opt for an older-fangled and proveable system? If it's a matter of money (the bigger excuse than god for all true nastiness in this society) then that argument needs to be crushed like a bug. The sanctitiy of our vote is more precious than virtually anything.

These machines CAN be tampered with. There is no verification. Why is there any argument? It must be attacked frontally IMMEDIATELY or they'll use the delaying tactic and excuses, steal the '04 election, and that'll be that. We won't recover from that for decades, if at all.
