Poll question: What is the best reason to be a democrat?
Edited on Sun Aug-17-03 01:54 AM by Gringo
In light of all the ugliness proliferating on GD lately, I just thought I'd remind us, or at least myself, why we're here.

What is the most wonderful thing about voting democrat/democratic party activism?

(edited for spelling)

1. Thanks, Gringo.
Your reality-check message is greatly appreciated.

I might add to the survey: "To NOT be Republican!"

Thanks -- :toast:

2. I'm a Democrat
Because my mom (4thGenDem), grandma and grandpa G (3rdGenDem), all four of their parents (2ndGenDem) and my g2grandpa G (1stGenDem) were all Democrats. Truthfully, we've probably been voting Dem since Andy Jackson in 1832 -- which would actually make me 7thGenDem except I can't prove it.
John
In any event, there are two more generations of Dems in my family after me. We're not only liberals, but we breed like rabbits.

5. What is the best reason?
Some members of the Democratic wing of the Republicratic party are better than the Republican wing of the Republicratic party. That's all.

8. what in heaven's name else would anyone want to be
the world is a better place becaue of the democratic party. No party is perfect, and we can all be disapointed over some democrats, but what are the alternatives? The only succesful third party efforts in history have been centrist and who wants to be that?

Male and female. People who are compassionate and thoughtful make the best company. I would not want it any other way.

11. "to be a (small 'd') democrat?"
(That's how I'll interpret the question.)

Simple answer: Because without a democratic perspective, no other opinion one might have will be counted.

I'm often bemused that rabid reichwingers, frequently voicing their malignant political perspectives, don't seem to appreciate that the very democratic principles they demonize are what empower them to have their opinions matter. Ouroboros lives.

12. Givers and takers
The Dems are the givers and the Repigs are the takers. The main reason I am a Dem is that I just plain like to be able to sleep at night.

14. Concentration Camp Planet
Given a choice between being an inmate or an exterminator, too many would choose to be exterminators. (DeLay comes to mind.)

13. There are so many reasons why i am a Dem...
but probably the most resounding in my mind is:

I don't want to be a NAZI!

I like to think and work out problems; the last thing I need is some neo-fascist republican telling me WHAT to think. Goosestepping down Penn Ave is not my idea of a parade.

15. as a former 40 year democrat
I thought long and hard about this one and could come up with only one answer....
To paraphrase Che Guevarra, who said that he envied americans as they ,living in the belly of the beast, had the most important job, being a moderate or liberal democrat these days puts one inside the belly of the beast........
