See the congenitally smug W. smirkingly shake hands with Tony Blair yesterday after the backrom handover in Iraq yesterday? Not a care in the world. Cat swallows the canary again. Another in a lifetime of successful scams.

The declining approval ratings mean nothing to Junior Aristocrat. Hasn't been a problem in his life that he wasn't able to solve. And he's got some more tricks up his sleeve that none of us know about.

But there's no escape this time. He lied us into an impossible situation in Iraq, costing us dearly in terms of lives, prestige and treasure, and he still smirks about it. Bush can't fathom the depth of disgust he has engendered. This is the kind of feeling he has been protected from all his life and most of his presidency. He's the schoolyard bully who can't anticipate the rain of blows that is about to befall him. He just hasn't been there and done that.

So, like Dad, who fumbled with "the vision thing," and never understood why so many people linked his ignorance of supermarket scanners with his indifference to a slumping economy, W. doesn't see the gathering storm.
