Why do people make decisions here based on the GOP???
Everything is based on the republicans. The GOP want Davis out. Therefore, we must help Davis.

If we were to look at it objectively and see what is in our own best interest. Supporting the recall would actually help us, not hurt us. Who cares if it is a moral victory for the GOP. Bustemonte would be governor if Dems threw their support to him. That's why he's at 25% and not higher. Because THE DEMOCRATS are sitting on their hands DEFENDING Davis.

What has Davis ever done for anyone? Do you guys support the way he handled the Energy Crisis (I know, I know it's the Republicans fault)? Do you support the cuts he wants to make (I know, I know it's the Republicans fault)?

I agree, Davis isn't responsible for these things. His problem is that he does nothing about them. He is weak. Did he demand the break up of PG&E during the Energy Crisis? Did he rally for a strong state utility? NO. Has he rallied other Western Governors (many of whom are Democrats) for a better deal from Washington? No.

His problem is he doesn't do anything. Not that he is responsible for all these problems. Why should Democrats defend this guy? Because the Republicans are behind this recall. Well, many Democrats support this recall too.

We can win this recall easily. But we have to get rid of some dead weight first. DAVIS!!!!!

1. I have no use for Gray Davis anymore
I could care less if people vote Yes or No on the recall, but I will be pissed as hell if the state falls into Republican hands.

3. Me too. That's the point of my message
Why defend Davis and lose California to Arnold and the GOP.

Drop Davis. Back Bustemonte.

2. You are right
Can Davis. He is an idiot. He is hurting the party for no good reason.

You didn't see Repukes supporting Nixon the Senator from Oregon. I agree, both were crooks and Davis isn't. But the bottom line is, this is politics, and when you can't even hold a 40% approval rating in your own state, that is bad, Bush is rating higher in Cali than Davis. That is bad, really really freaking Bad!

Get the guy out of here, he is a huge liability to us all, and could cost us the State even in the Presidential election.

4. Because the Republicans...
are trying to overturn a fair election and they've tried this before on Democrats? I know what the GOP is capable of. I saw what they did in Florida, the bastards.

Bush hasn't done anything to solve our economic woes. As a matter of fact, he's made things unbelievably worse since he stole office. I don't see anyone trying to recall him. Why target Davis when there are plenty of incompetent politicians to recall? Because the GOP needs California in 2004. It's a double standard--a solely Republican ploy to gain power and I'm so sick of this bullsh*t I could scream.

5. Davis is a micro-manager
And for those who've worked with or for one, nothing gets accomplished. I used to work for the CA Trade and Commerce Agency. He filled the top positions with political payoffs to incompetent persons (defintley his history to accomodate campaign contributors) and then didn't let them try to do their jobs. Evey little thing had to go thru him or his flunkies. Hence, within the next five months CTTCA will be dissolved. There are a lot of good people who will be out on the street. And this is supposed to be an agency that no state can do without. Fuck Davis, viva la Cruz!

6. interesting point. they do certainly have us on the defensive
which is to their advantage.

We need leaders, real ones, not those who just react to the GOP.

7. Yes
We've basically been the "reactive party' ever since Reagan was elected. Reagan ushered in a socioeconomic era that was pro-"free trade" and pro-leissez-faire. No longer were the Dems the proactive party as they had been since the New Deal, but now our whole agenda of the last 15-20 years has been in response to Conservatism's propaganda. Clinton was basically a reactive President, since he lurched to right in order to steal Newt's thunder on certain issues. We need to take our cues from the Wesley Clark's and the Howard Dean's of our party, and not from an Ann Coulter column, a Limbaugh broadcast, or a DLC memo. WE NEED TO FRAME THE NATIONAL DEBATES! WE MUST BE THE PRO-ACTIVE PARTY AGAIN!

8. You mean think for ourselves?
Instead of uniting behind one single solitary idea so that we might actually be able to put out a cohesive message?

Nah, if the Republicans have a good idea, go with it. And next time you want somebody to back you up on your good idea, well, you're on your own!

11. Either we swim together
or we sink alone.

I'm glad there's independence in the Democratic party, but at some point we've got to learn to stand together. Resisting this charade of a recall is one of those times.

No on Recall Yes on Bustamante

Solves everything.
