WASHINGTON Ever wonder if the tough-talking Texan in the Oval Office and his tough-looking homeland security czar are really doing all they can to protect you and your loved ones from another al-Qaida attack?

If you don't, you should, because they aren't. And here's why: <br>

Only after the media revealed a Homeland Security Department memo to law enforcement warning of a summer al-Qaida hijacking plot exploiting a visa loophole did Tom Ridge close the loophole and only did so temporarily.

Only after the media revealed another internal department memo cutting the number of federal air marshals on overnight flights did Ridge rescind the order.

Only after parts of the 28-page Saudi section of the 9-11 report President Bush still refuses to declassify were leaked did the FBI go after two Saudi bagmen for some of the 15 Saudi hijackers Osama Bassnan and Omar Bayoumi who are tied to the Saudi royal family, prominent members of whom are tight with the Bush family.

Its almost as if BushCo doesn't give a damn about anyone but themselves and the other insanely wealthy in the country.

But no, surely not. Evil men can't be President.
Not in America, right?

Innocent people wouldn't be used as leverage for votes by an administration, would they?

Maybe I wouldn't be so cynical if Bush and his cronies didn't seem so apathetic.

Sometimes I wonder if they are massive fuckups, or if they just don't give a shit about anything other than money.

3. Plunder not blunder!

<Bush, now in a serious battle for re-election, has been taking a lot of heat for diverting resources – U.S. troops, intelligence assets, Arabic translators – from the hunt for bin Laden, the real threat to America, to carry out "regime change" in Baghdad. Raising the threat level now would confirm al-Qaida's resurgence, and highlight his monumental blunder in Iraq.>

This is the politically necessary phrase. Because you can't admit it was an INTENTIONAL crime of piracy and plunder. People just can't accept the truth. To the extent that the neocons posture that it had a strategic purpose, then you could it a blunder.

Let's hope it's a serious battle for re-election. They are not going to give up the executive branch no matter what it takes.

what I'm finding is that people (in general) just refuse to believe that a president would lie, manipulate and otherwise distort information for his own personal agenda.

Seems to me another "event" in this country will not produce the same results that the 9/11 tragedy gave this administration. The fact that we have not had an open public review of 9/11 will come back and haunt these criminals.

The fact that we have spent $100s of billions creating the conditions for more Islamic hatred when that same money could have gone in better national security and programs to develop alternative/renewable energy sources (and jobs) will not go unnoticed.

I know that these people will not relinquish power...they have way too much to lose (like their lives, maybe)...the time between now and the 2004 election will be the most critical period this nation has ever faced, IMHO. I think we are going to be fighting for the heart and soul of this nation.

5. What battle for re-election?

Bush said that troops could expect to be in Iraq for another year.

That has them coming home around middle to late August, 2004.
Then you have their GOP nominating convention in September to exploit 9/11 (as though they haven't done that enough already), then you have the anniversary of 9/11. After that, maybe they will announce that they have captured another member of Al Quaeda (wouldn't matter if its the lowest ranking, newest member, they will play it up like he was bin Laden's #2 guy).

The point is, the public will be too stupid, frightened, and in awe of their great protector to notice that:
Unemployment is up
Thousands of jobs have been lost
They haven't seen a dime of Bush's (fill in number between 2 and 10) tax cuts for the rich
We have not brought those responsible for 9/11 to justice
The government has failed to produce WMD or Saddam Hussein
They no longer can afford health care

It goes on and on.
