FAKE SECURITY: On Saturday I Took Visitors To The Smithsonian... |

... Air & Space Museum and Natural History Museum.
The Air & Space and Natural History museums both had magnetometers at the security checkpoint. The Air & Space museum had an X-ray machine.
Man-Oh-Man... beep-beep-beep... that thing was beeping like mad and the "guards" were just waving people through without follow up, without "wanding" and without emptying pockets and re-trying.
JUST ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!
THIS is what passes for security??
So the Natural History museum didn't have an X-ray machine... just a man with a 12" long dowel stick. Each visitor was required to open their bag/purse/camera case/whatever and allow the inspector to use the dowel prod around and peek in your bags. --- His efforts were half-hearted at best.
Is this a deterrent?
Is it real security?
Or is it just for show?
Personally I was appalled!!

It's a well known fact that terrorists are terrified of beeping noises, so the wands beeping are enough!!
