pessimists vs. optimists....which are you?
i'm basically a pessimist in most matters, and concerning our recent past, current and future immediate political situations, i'm very pessimistic.

i see frequent posts with titles like, 'dems rejoice' counterbalanced with ones that say, 'it's all going to hell, brace yourselves'.

in regard to the next supposed election, i have grave fears. based on the boldness of the 2000 florida theft, and the arrogance shown since, tossed in with the california election theft attempt, i wonder if we will even have an election. some of the scary theories i've heard put forward seem more fact based and less insane all the time.

and waiting for the next terror attack, staged of course, is nerve wracking. where will it be? how many will die? who will be blamed? will it work as well as the first hoax? or will it destroy bushco? we've been told by president cheney himself that another awful attack is imminent. not if but when.

will we have a shot at bringing these madmen down next year, or will we suffer like beasts in the jungle, at the mercy of the local lions for another 4 years? are you looking forward to the next few years, or looking with dread?

1. I go both ways
depending on the news. I'm doing what I can to support the Dean campaign, which is my way of avoiding utter hopelessness, I'll be doing that until the election for whoever the candidate is.

If there are no elections or the chimp wins, I'll drown myself in a gin bottle, I guess.

3. Pessimist
I am in awe of the suicidal complacency I am witnessing in this country. How corrupt, how venal, how deceitful does the Bush administration and the GOP have to become before this country wakes up and mobilizes against this criminal hoax? Most people are either too blind, too lazy, or too stupid to do anything about it. The media is shameful in their complicity in the rape of our Republic and our environment. A few weeks ago, when the SOTU scandal seemed to be reaching the boiling point, I allowed myself to be cautiously optimistic that the administration was finally going to be held accountable for it’s broad deceptions. The media seemed to be waking up and putting some heat on Bush and Co. But of course, their fleeting aggressiveness soon evaporated, and they have returned to their puppy status, covering more safe issues like Ahhnold and the blackouts (both important issues, but they pale in significance to the high crimes of the Bush administration) . This media analysis can of course be applied to the shamefully weak Democrats, who also have backed off from their momentary period as vertebrates. They’re back on their stomachs, taking it in the ass from the Bush/GOP juggernaut. Why in the hell should I be optimistic in the face of such epidemic apathy. Shall I be bracing myself for the coming popular revolution?

6. I'm a believer in potential, but realistic enough to know we'll fall short
So sort of both, I suppose. We have all that's necessary for greatness and happiness, but we'll never really get there.

13. Optimist
those who call themselves "realists" are pessimists. We should try to carry Utah even though it is very unlikely, we should take the fight to all 50 states.

14. Long term optimist as far as the human race in general . . .
. . . but short term pessimist, especially as far as America is concerned.

It isn't just the current administration. It's the total abandonment of literacy, critical thinking, broad vision, and everything else that makes nations great. Americans today are lazy, self-indulgent, self-centered, ignorant, and scared. They have no hope of the future and no respect for the past. As much as I try to look for the bright spots (and I grant there are a few), I cannot see any way for us to get out of the current hole without a major collapse and rebuilding from scratch.

The natural fate of all empires is to become the bad guys and be decisively rejected by everyone with any sort of higher aspirations. The only question in my mind is how best to deal with that fact.

16. Carlos (jiacinto) is the WORST political pessimist I've ever seen
When I heard this question. I immediately thought of Carlos.

Sid Blumenthals says that George Stephanopolus was such a pessimist it was joke among everyone they worked with. Any time anything went wrong, Stephanopolus thought it was going to be the end of the world.

I'm an optimist.

Oh Happy Happy Joy Joy! No more terrorist tickery for us. :-) :-) I wear my bunny sweatshirt with fluttery eyelashes! BAH!

I'm a die hard pessimist. I try and I try to be optimistic but the glass remains half empty and the water's polluted.

I too am bracing for the worst in 2004. I have absolutely no faith in the so-called wisdom of the 'mrkin peo - er - sheeple.
