Bush Administration Ignores 44 Million Uninsured in U.S as it Awards Contract for Universal Health Care in Iraq

Reps. DeGette, Dingell, Brown Demand President Commit to Health Care
for All Americans and All Iraqis

WASHINGTON, DC - On the day that the Bush Administration awarded a contract to Abt Associates to provide universal health service to 25 million Iraqis within a year, U.S. Representatives Diana DeGette (D-CO), John D. Dingell (D-MI), and Sherrod Brown (D-OH) called on President Bush to provide the same commitment to the 44 million Americans without health care coverage.

The contract by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) seeks to “help facilitate rapid, universal health service delivery to the Iraqi population” including “basic health care available to 12.5 million persons” after six months and “25 million persons” after one year of program implementation. The Administration also requires all 25 million Iraqis to have maternal, child health care, and health information and education after six months of program implementation.

1. It's my understanding the Iraqis already had universal health
care before we "liberated" them, so there was no way they were going to be satisfied with American-style health "care."

I guess when it comes to "Compassionate Conservatism" even a brutal dictator such as Saddam wins hands down over Bush* and his gang of rapacious thugs.

2. As someone with increasing pain and loss of strength,
with condition left untreated and getting worse every month (and probably facing the decision to suicide when the condition gets so bad I can no longer take care of myself) I really, really hate this administration.

What are they gonna do, extend voting rights to the Iraqi citizens in hopes of outnumbering pissed off voters in the US?

When enough of us are left with nothing to lose and no hope of things getting better, things are gonna get nasty. There will not be enough guards to keep the gated communities safe from the anger.

4. I'm in the same boat
I lost my insurance in 1987, and can't get coverage I can afford, now.

When it's time, I hope I have the strength to go. I won't go quietly.

3. He has no intention of delivering
You think Abt is actually going to do any of that in a country where health care works don't dare go out after dark and soldiers get shot at every day?

Twit could make the same promise here and it wouldn't mean a thing.
