Does bombing the UN mean we can "take to the streets," again?
Edited on Tue Aug-19-03 04:08 PM by KoKo01
Is this now a clear signal that we MUST go back to Peace Demonstrations? Does "Bring Our Troops Home" now have more relevancy than ever? Will we have more sympathy if we do massive demonstrations, than we did when those of us who protested against this "Invasion and Occupation" had back in February and March?

Or, will the UN bombing have the opposite reaction? Will this mean folks the world over will decide the UN is not relevant and that we need to bomb Iraq and Syria and bring troops in from all over the world to Occupy the Middle East. Will that be the downside?

Which?

1. we should never have stopped peace demonstrations

My God yes, we should go back to demonstrating. As much as possible. For as long as the US is in Iraq. In the face of massive, constant public outrage, the government might just do something about the situation over there.

3. We had to stop them once we went in. It was getting harder to keep the
momentum going once Bush started the bombing. We were down to only about 8 people at the demonstrations the week before he decided to defy the UN., and we would have gotten too much abuse. I live in a state that has lots of Military, anyway....it was hard enough....

2. I was thinking the same thing

but for a different reason. We live in the deep south, and this whole area was extremely pro-war...so much so it was sickening. But in the past few days, I have heard comments from numerous people (veterans in particular) that it is time to bring the troops home. There was a Vietnam vet on the radio today just raking Bush over the coals about the cuts in veterans benefits. He said that he would be attending the Vietnam Vets of America convention in St. Louis on August 23rd, and they were ready, and have already been planning, to unite and vote the pResident out of office. They are sick of his treatment of our troops. He ended his tirade by saying that we need to bring the troops home. I think they are waking up and realizing that Iraq is now Vietnam 2. I think if we took to the streets now, they would be ready and willing to join us.

4. Ft. Bragg, NC now has 600 folks who are supporting "Veterans for Peace."
This could be a start. And, maybe it will have to be the Veterans Groups who take the lead.....with us following for this to get any coverage. The massive Protests here in the US certainly didn't get the coverage they deserved...so it will have to be the Vets before we can get out there........
