United against Bush?!
Edited on Tue Aug-19-03 05:24 PM by gully
I propose, as a show of unity that those who share the "Any One But Bush" (in the end) philosophy show their 'colors' by changing their avatar for about a week...

Anybody else in?

I think in the end most of us are UNITED in the battle against the Bush junta.

http://www.anybodybutbush.info/

I would ask that we respect those who abstain from the ABB position...

And, also ask that said abstainers respect ABB DU-ers in the mean time

Also, Im not at all interested in a debate here.

Here is the official position of DU...

"In the general election, Democratic Underground will strongly support whoever wins the Democratic presidential nomination.

We consider every single Democratic candidate to be highly qualified and fit to serve as president of the United States. Furthermore, we consider every single Democratic candidate to be a vast improvement over the current White House resident. The Democratic nominee will have our support. Please see our message board rules for more information.

I share this position personally, anybody else?

Do you expect us to remember how we got the avatar in the first place.

11. Sorry, if you want to show DU unity
use my logo. If you want to win an election you have to run FOR something, not against someone. Ask Rick Lazio, he ran on the platform that he was NOT Hillary Clinton, big mistake. This ABB logic is the same thing. We have to stand for what we believe in. "Anyone But..." only works for Nadarites.

look at election 2004.

That clarifies the position of DU. In addition, I asked that you respect OUR right to show our unity, and I will in turn respect your positon. Also, Naderites argue against the ABB position so I'm confused?

Thanks! :D

But, I think the ABB logo also stands for "the Democratic Nominee" more so then the DU logo does...I don't want to endorse DU but the Democratic candidate KWIM?

*Especially as a Dem is going to be the only person with a shot at Bush.*

Thanks for the clarification though.

27. what about winning Congress?
I agree that ABB is important, but I fear we're losing sight of the bigger picture. Bush is NOT as powerful as people seem to think - it's the fact that Republicans have all three branches and most states that's the problem. Bush is one of the parts of the GOP's power, but not the only one.

50. Lieberman's voting record on "the issues" is brought up often in defense..
...of his ability to still qualify as a Democrat. Truth is that it does not matter. His record may give a good indication of how he might vote if he continued to be the Senator from the state of Connecticut. However his public support of the PNAC agenda, to the extent of even saying it was wrong of his fellow Democratic candidates to oppose an illegal war based on lies, is an indication of how he would act as President of the United States.

And a so-called "Democrat" continuing with the fascist PNAC agenda is something I absolutely cannot support.

I'm with Walt and his dragon on this one. Almost Anybody But Bush.

To each his own. I almost felt I should have a Lieberman disclaimer. But his latest polling numbers are 4% in New Hampshire, so I'm not too concerned. And, I don't want to alienate those that support Joe Lieberman because (he has some very good qualities) that are lacking at present in the OO?! *long sentence I know*

Edited to add: I don't think Joe would have instigated the Iraqi war given he was in the same postion as Shrub. But this is not a debate thread so??? And, we can't possibly know that.

~peace to you in your decision.
